Roman Peed in the Potty!!

Okay, so my 21 month old son peed in the potty last night, YAAAAAY!!

I think it was kind of an accident, yes he was pants less, yes he had to pee, but he just happened to sit on the potty at the right time :)

We made a big fuss out of it; he was really proud of himself!

So... how can I keep on making this a big deal, so it 'clicks'... the connection to peeing in the potty and all smiles and cheers?

What can I do next?

YAY!!! YAY!!! YAY!!!!!

Rewards...I was VERY lucky with Greg...he potty trained in one week and didn't really need rewards...I did the "potty dance" when he did it and thought it was funny so he would run into the bathroom to pee or poop and I would potty dance!!

Elayne? OH MY WORD!!! Took her almost 4 months and still "lingered" for about a year...I think she was fully potty trained at 4 - day and night.

Nicky? Just like Elayne - about 3 months and it was...well....it was!!! Nicky needed rewards - stickers, etc. the potty dance didn't work for him!

I did this absolutely ridiculous pee pee in the potty dance. My daughter thought it was hilarious so she wanted to do it again. She has been pee potty trained since she was 20 months old, but no matter how much we celebrate, reward, beg and encourage, I am starting to think this child is never going to be poop potty trained.

GO ROMAN!!! With my youngest we took him to the store and let him pick a big toy (luckily he picked an on sale for $10 Buzz Lightyear toy!) We have a big table under our TV and we put him on the table. When he peed in the potty he got to play with him, if he had an accident he had to put him back up until he went potty again. Took him a week max. But he was 3 :)

Hey now potty training questions are not welcome on this site! JUST KIDDING Ha Ha! I would sing silly songs to my son and dance and he thought it was the best and he would try hard to make it to the potty just to see mommy act like a fool. I wasnt to big on giving candy or treats. I think just keel making a huge deal and make him want to continue without really pushing is the way to go. It worked for my son as he was potty trained by 23 months old.Good luck and congrats to your little one on using the potty :)

Yeah!!! Congrats Roman!!!

My daughter was the worst to potty train. I even encourage her with M&Ms and everything under the sun!! She was 3 1/2 when she finally went on the potty.

Keep up the great job!

Congrats!

If you keep him running around naked, just keep reminding him about the potty. What worked well to keep my son on the potty was to bring books and 'potty only' toys into the potty-room, so there's a special toy in there for when he tries to go.

If you put underwear on him, the book I read suggested to ask "Are you clean and dry?" and reward him when he IS clean and dry. No reward if he pees in his underwear. My 3 yr old loves when I ask "are you clean and dry?" He says "yep! Skittle??"

Some may suggest a sticker chart, but that didn't work for me. But you could give it a try - after a certain number of stickers, get a prize. I think your son is possibly too young for that to 'click' anyway.

I think in your situation, for you and your girls to dance and cheer for him, lift him up in the air and hug him like crazy with a huge smile on your face. He'll love the attention and want to do it again and again, I would bet.

Hooray! Good for him! Just the celebration....that's all I can advise. And telling daddy when he gets home.
Yesterday my 22 month old pooped on the potty for the first time. We clapped, danced, cheeered, he got to flush, and play in the sink (wash hands). We told daddy when he got home, and my little guy, who doesn't really talk very much, told the whole story in charades. "You were standing here watching TV, and then (tapping diaper) thought you needed to go, and (pointing to me) Mommy came and ran you fast, and then oh! There's your Elmo potty seat? And what happened? YAY!" He struck all these little celebratory poses like he thought he was Nike or something, which was pretty funny.

When Isaac was 18 months he learned to pee and poop in the potty (as long as he was NAKED-- he didn't learn NOT to pee or poop in his pants until he was 3 1/2!!!!)

It only took a day to teach him to go in the potty-- I trained him to go in the potty the same way I've trained every puppy I ever had, but since an 18 month old human is smarter than an 8 week old puppy he caught on a LOT faster-- let him run around naked under close supervision with the potty right there and when he starts to go make a loud "UH-UH" noise to draw his attention to what he's doing, put him on the potty and then do the Happy Dance when he goes on the potty!

Teaching them NOT to go in their pants-- that's a WHOLE other story! I spent 2 years beating my head against that wall every now and then before it finally clicked. He'd just give me this LOOK-- and I could tell he was thinking "but MOM, I've been going in my pants my WHOLE life!!!" But since I'd MUCH rather look at a naked baby than change diapers he spent a LOT of time at home naked!
