Hi J.,
I had a doctor who actually told me not to take it as he felt it was really not needed. I hope things get better soon.

Anyone have any thought or opinions? I had my first dose of it and I think it was a mistake, baby has been very gassy and had boughts of hysterical crying like never before. Please help
Thank you all for your opinions. She seems to be doing better it may have been a stomach bug that was going around or atleast I hope so. It's just amazing how many vaccines we need to give our kids today, amazing how we all survied years ago.

MY son also had a severe reaction-bloody diarrhea and inconsolable crying. Call your pediatrician, and don't go through with the remaining doses....By chance does your son have a milk protein allergy?
Maybe you mean the Rotavirus vaccine? We didn't give it to our 5 month old. My advice is to do lots of research on vaccines. The reason I didnt give it is because we are trying to cut back on the amount of stuff going into her little body and all at once. They receive so many shots at once. You can request to have the schedule broken up. The rotavirus is new. My 5 and 3 year old didn't get it and they are fine. It is a serious illness to get but think of it for years children have gotten the rotavirus and been fine....as long as children stay hydrated etc....the bug would pass. In my opinion the entire vaccination schedule should be more seriously looked at. Not nearly enough research has been done to see what the true effects of vaccines are having on our children. There are pediatricans out there that preach one thing for health standards but don't fully vaccinate their own children.
My cousin's baby actually had the original rotavirus vaccine. After the second dose her baby had to be rushed to the hospital because she had bloody diarrhea. Once she got there she had emergency surgery to remove part of her intestine. They said if it was just three hours later she may have lost her baby. I will never give that vaccine to my son. I only give him the vaccinations that he will need to go to school.
My son had the rotavirus last winter and it was definitely unpleasant with the vomitting and diarrhea, but it was never life threatening. It was managemable if you just keep your child hydrated and feed them bland foods until they get through it.
What is Rotateq? Was it for you or for your baby? Hopefully whatever the situation, the gas will pass and your child will feel better soon. Try the natural antigas reliever Milacon, it worked for my infant when she was gassy. Good luck and educate me about what rotateq is!
Probably not related to the vaccine itself. Any time kids get shots/vaccinations, they can be a little irritable for a few days. Their bodies are working a little hard to build up immunity against those "bugs" that they have just been vaccinated against. If you have real concerns, please talk to your pediatrician. There is alot of overwhelming information out there and your pediatrician is your best resource. If you are not comfortable talking with your pediatrician about your concerns/questions, you may want to find a different pedi
I would urge you to read the package inserts before having your baby further vaccinated - I read all these in anticipation of our upcoming birth and couldn't believe the stuff they were proposing injecting into my baby. I have done alot of reading and research since then and will not be vaccinating at all. We so blindly trust doctors and they do not know everything! They are highly influenced by the government and pressured to have high vaccination rates. There are doctors out there that are supportive of delayed/no vaccination. Email me off group if you want more information, or join the Yahoo Group "Vaccinations" - they have tons of great info. in their files!
rotateq is a new version of the rotavirus vaccine has been shown not have the same possible compiications(such as intestinal problems) as the first version that was taken off the market, so some of the posts that talk about that side effect are probably about the first version.
Babies get very sick from the rotavirus, so I did not even think twice about having it done. My daughter did not have any side effects from the vaccine and thankfully has not had rotavirus. I think as a mom you always question yourself and if you decide not to get the rest of rotateq series and then your child gets the rotavirus you might then doubt your decision not to give the vaccine. Most likely the symptoms are not from the vaccine, so I would give it a few days and then make a decision. Even if you think the gassyness is from the vaccine you might decide that the couple days of gassiness really wasn't that bad and you would rather avoid a possible hospitalization for vomiting and dehydration.
you are not the first mother i have heard this from!!i will be researching before mine gets hers! We may pass on this one!
thank you Leah for your post!
& website!
J.,
Out of all of the vaccines, this one I skipped for my now 18 month old, it wasn't available for my now 5 1/2 year old and when the doctor said my little one would be getting a "new vaccine" I was like "ok" but then the nurse explained the risks/benefits and how it could bind her little bowels/intestines so I decided to opt out of that vaccine. I would just not get the next dose of it and keep a close eye on your little one and make sure to call if it persists.
it probably isn't the vaccine.didshe getall her shots at once. the combination of shots can make the baby irritable for a few days.
Ditto the previous poster: I would be very careful before having any boosters of this vaccine. My children have also had the illness itself, and while it's unpleasant, it's manageable with no long-term damage or effect.
I don't know anything about Rotateq specifically, but the initial rotavirus vaccine was pulled from the market because of the high numbers of bowel obstructions it caused in children, not to mention nausea, vomiting ad diarrhea. Remember that both vaccine manufacturers and the FDA admit that there is insufficient testing of any vaccine to predict the full range of reactions before it is introduced to the public. So the first several years on the market serve as the final trial of a vaccine and any adverse reaction (like what your child experienced) should be reported, regardless of whether your doc tried to convince you it's unrelated or coincidental.
The National Vaccine Information Center (http://www.909shot.com/Default.htm) has great information about vaccination, reporting adverse events, and how to vaccinate more safely, should you choose to do so. Good luck!
