If your toddler and infant was vaccinated against rotavirus, do they usually get it? I was told by our pediatrician that usually if they do get it, it's not as bad. My cousin has rotavirus and is in the hospital and today I had to stay home with my daughter (3 yrs old) today because of vomitting. Good thing is she only vomitted twice and no diarrhea. Now this same daughter was sick last year with something for 4 days. She had diarrhea and vomitting. It stopped for like 1 day and then came back so I question if she had rotavirus last year.

My question is both my kids were vaccinated against it, I know their risk decreases from getting the vaccine but what about us adults? My husband and I have gotten the stomach virus 2 times this year and I was just curious how bad we could get it if we were exposed. I am 22 weeks pregnant and my husband works nights so I am hoping we won't get it.

What can I do next?

Vaccinations are meant to prepare a body's defenses not make it impregnable. Vaccines do extremely lessen a bug's severity and longevity. Sadly the adults will most likely get the full brunt, unless it's a similar strain they had in the past.

I caught it from my unvaccinated 2 year old. It was AWFUl, but only for about 3-4 days. Far worse than any 24 hour "bugs" I have had. My daughter was sick for over 2 weeks, with a really intense week of not being able to eat. My older vaccinated daugher did not catch it.

when my son had it, it lasted a week and he would vomit and have diarrhea on almost everything he ate. kids or anybody I guess for that matter can get dehydrated pretty quickly.....if you drink pedialyte or gatorade it will help with this.... but sadly I knew about a child that did die of dehydration from this so it can be serious if you do not keep an eye on it just watch the liquids like I said.

Both of my children were vaccinated against rotavirus. They both also attend daycare and I know that there were students enrolled who had rotavirus and likely came into contact with many kids there. Fortunately, neither child has had rotavirus.
