Round Ligament Pains?

I have heard of round ligament pains during pregnancy and was wondering if anyone could describe to me what they are.
TO describe a little of what I'm experiencing... It happened once during my first pregnancy at about 12 weeks, and during this one at 15 weeks and again at 17 weeks. It is a painful band that runs just below my ribcage and it goes all the way around my chest and back right there, usually starting in the sternum area. It has typically lasted about 2 hours each time and I have to take 2 tylenol and a warm soak in the tub to get it to subside and it still takes about an hour after doing that for the pain to go away. So, could this be round ligament pains that I'm feeling?

What can I do next?

Ouch! Been there done that! When I had round ligament pain I thought it was the worst thing. I called my midwife and told her that I swore my lady buisness was going to fall out onto the floor. (sorry that's the only way I really know how to describe it.) Her office sent me to a D.O. that I don't reccomend. I would find a good D.C (chiropractor) that has worked with pregnant women before, your OB should be able to recomend one. And tylonol if you want something to take the edge off. Congrats on twins. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

I had a lot of round ligament pain during my pregnancy that I caused myself. I'm a tennis player and during the beginning of my pregnancy I went after a ball that I shouldn't have and pulled one. I never knew they existed till that day! What I found was when I bent over, reached out or stepped up with one foot I would get this shooting pain in that area. What helped me the most, besides laying off the balls that I couldn't reach, was going to my chiropractor. Your hips and pelvic area are going through so much change right now it's easy to get out of wack. You need to make sure you go to one that will work with pregnant women. Mine is Dr. Mike Vandewalle. He's awesome. I've recommended him before on this site and I'll do it again. He works with the University of Texas athletes and does pregnancy and child chiropractic too. I take my 6 month old to him now and he helped with her Torticollis. He's so gentle he makes her laugh while working on her. You can tell when you meet him that he's got the experience that counts. If you've never been to a chiropractor he will take really good care to make you comfortable and help you understand what is going on. In their office there are two different doctors. It's a father son team but I prefer the father and that's who I recommend to you for this problem. Not that his some Dr. Alex is bad he's just not as experienced and he's not quite as gentle. You will want gentle on your already achy hips. He took me all the way through my pregnancy and made it so much easier for me. The office is used to people calling up and asking for a specific doctor. If you don't you could end up with either one. E-mail me if you want any further information on his office. I believe he still does first visits for free too so that's bonus.

In the mean time, what I was told by my GYN doctor was to apply low heat from a heating pad and just rest. In my case it was a pulled ligament but in essence that's what is happening to you too.

Good luck!

i had them all through my pregnancy, and i still get them occasionally now.
they are more in the groin area and come if you change position in bed, or crouch down then stand up, it is a sharp breathtaking pain and you are unable to move for a few minutes.
but it is right down in the groin, one side or the other - occasionally both at the same time lol
\yours definitley does not sound like round ligamanet
not sure what it could be sorry

I am a senior midwife student. Your uterus is suspended on four ligaments. As the uterus grows these ligaments stretch. When you make sharp movements such as getting out of bed or bending over or even sneezing these ligaments can stretch and then snap back, think of a rubber band. This is what calls the sharp pain you get. Also, have you thought about midwifery care for your upcoming birth? The midwife I am training under has delivered triplets at home before and has done lots of twin deliveries. Studies have shown that midwives have far better outcomes and give better care than OB's do. If you would like more information or have any questions, please ask.

Take Care,
Lisa
