We are buying our boys a swing set this year and are looking to put rubber mulch down in the swing set area. Anyone have any pros or cons with rubber mulch? Or any advise on what to look for when purchasing a swing set?

What can I do next?

I don't know too much about rubber mulch would I would strongly suggest something. We have a swingset my husband built and it is on the grass at this time. We will be purchasing something for the upcoming summer. My daughter is three and fell from her swingset last summer. She hit her head and lost conciousness ending up with a grade three concussion. She is just fine now but let me tell you I will never ever forget that day. She hit her head on the ladder on the way down. I am sure that some type of playground padding would have softened the blow, even though her head had already been hit before she landed on the ground. We are going to install some sort of playground padding this spring. Whatever you do, always remember accidents can happen within a second. You can never be too safe.

We have rubber mulch under our swing set area and we love it. It always maintains a fresh/new look and the kids clothes don't get stained like with regular mulch and no splinters!!! As far as it getting hot I not sure, we've had it for almost four years now and I have not heard any complaints. It's more expensive than regular mulch but I think it's worth it. With regular mulch you need to refresh the area annually due to sun damage and decomposion of the the product so you'll end up paying more in the long run with the regular mulch. Good Luck.
