Rust Stains on Clothing

A wet white t-shirt got thrown into a laundry basket with a wire coat hanger and is now full of awful rust stains. I have tried soaking in Oxi overnight, bleaching the stains and I even tried CLR on a couple of the spots. It is a favourite shirt and matches a pair of favourite shorts so I was hoping to save it, but it doesn't look good. Does anyone have a suggestion, or do I have a new cleaning rag?

What can I do next?

Long ago, I used to use Whink Rust stain remover.... it worked wonderfully!

I don't know if it is still available in stores or not, but here is a link to the manufacturer's website... I think there is a store locator there, also.

https://www.whink.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=cEcommerce.Pro...

It would be in the laundry area at the store... try the big box stores to see if you can find it.

Try some Fels-Naptha soap. It takes the red earth stains out of our clothes really well. Just wet the item, rub the soap in, rinse and repeat til the stain is gone. good luck!

I had a small jumper with metal hooks that got rust stains on it. I wet the part with the stains, put Oxy right on it rather than in water to soak, sprinkle some water on top of the Oxy to wet it and make more of a paste, make sure it is on the stain and leave for a day. It took it out for me. I don't do this too often but it always works for me.

Try Genesis 950. I've used it to take rust stains out of carpet. I don't see why it wouldn't work on clothing.

I used straight hydrogen peroxide to get red clay stains out of white socks. Since it's the iron in rust and in red clay that stains, perhaps that would work.
