Good evening ladies~

I have an 8 ½ month old who I suspect (will confirm at 9 month appointment) will be at the weight limit of his infant car seat very soon.

I am doing research of the different car seats available. Does anyone have the Safety 1st Complete Air Convertible Car Seat?

It looks GREAT on paper but I have 2 concerns: I think it is new (I would never buy a first year model car) and it does not covert to a booster. I can deal with the latter.

Here is the product information on BRU website. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3601278

Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I have some eddy bower model that still works at age 6 as 5 point car seat w/ latch. It converts to a booster, just use a seat belt instead of the 5 point harness. And that's the big thing I'd suggest the most, something that converts.
Good luck. A. H

This seat was just released this week. So, it is very new. It has a lot of positives.. very tall shell, so your child can stay rearfacing for a long time..likely to 3 or 4 with the 40lb weight limit. It does not convert to a booster, but that is good. The alpha omega seats that convert into a booster, make a terrible booster and don't fit most child well as a booster. You can find more information on this seat as well as many others at car-seat.org. It's a great forum.

I do not know a lot about this car seat either. I would say because it is a pre-order that it is a brand new item. It does go rear face to 40 lbs. and forward facing to 50lbs. I think the car seat is very expensive and I personally would never spend that much. I use the cosco scenera it is only 55.00 at Walmart. It is a very nice car seat that is very easy to use. I find more things that are on car seats the harder they are to use. The other thing this car seat looks really narrow so if you have a large size child he will be very uncomfortable especially when he is older when he wants to move around. Hope this helps.

I have done a lot of research on car seats since I own a daycare and have bought many over the past 6 years. If I had my choice I would choice the evenflo converter car seat. It is easy to work and wash when needed. So many car seats take forever to take apart and put back together when washing. I have checked into the one you are looking at and it looked like not even all the parts are washable. The evenflo are very safe which is top priority. Another benefit is the way it's adjustable with the knob on the side. It took me a few minutes to figure it out but now it's so easy and we never have to woory about tangled strapes hanging from the middle of the front of the seat that kids get filthy dirty. Just push the tab and turn the know counterclockwise and then pull the straps to loosen. Good luck!

Britax.
We have used Britax carseats since baby #2. I think they were all Britax Marathon. They consistently have a great safety rating, are approved up to 80 lbs. and are rear-facing or forward-facing. At least take a peek before you make your decision....

Hi J., this is my opinion on this car seat. I've never used it but just read what was on the link you put in there. I would not spend that much money on it. Even though it sounds good this is the problem. Until your son is 20lbs and 1yr old it is required that he be rear facing as it is the safest position for him. My son also hit the weight first a few months before he turned one and could be foward facing. Because of this i had to go buy a car seat that was rear facing. The one i got though went up to 40lbs. I kept him rear facing until he turned a year(couldn't do longer like is recommended because he was a tall baby and it was too cramped for him) and then switched him to foward facing. He's now growing out of that car seat. He is 3.5 and about 37lbs. This one says it either has a rear seated one that goes to 40lbs or a foward facing one that goes 22-50lbs. You obviously can't get the front facing one right now but with the rear facing one is it one that once he hits the age of 1 can be turned around to foward facing. If not i wouldn't get that car seat. That one we had was in his dads car. Now we have to find a booster for his car. Now in my car i purchased the graco nautilus. This goes to 100lbs and has a 5pt harness till 65lbs. Most 5pt harness only go to 40lbs so this does protect them longer. When they outgrow the carseat part in can turn into a backed booster or a backless booster. I know yours sounds wonderful due to the air sides but this is a really nice car seat also. The one downside is that this doesn't go rear facing but if you can get away with keeping him in what you have just a couple more months i would and get something like this or just do some more research. There are other carseats out there that are convertible ones so you dont have to buy a booster later and maybe some of them end up as boosters i'm not sure. hope this info helps.

It looks and sounds great, but I too would be concerned about it being so new. I always checked out Consumer Reports and went with one of their highest rated seats.
