HI-- is that W. C or me speaking?!! i too delivered my first son at LDS & had a fantastic experience! Clean, modern, good ratings, jetted tub, etc...
i, too, had switched insurances (due to husband's job bene's change) --actually while i was pregnant with my second son after we had planned every detail for LDS. i was near frantic! My midwife delivers only at LDS or SL Regional. i nearly delivered at home as opposed to going to what i expected to be an outdated-insane-asylum-looking-institution!
Anyway, i recommend you take a tour! It isn't what it seems.
SL Regional also has the jetted tubs, private rooms, warm blankets, professional staff-- your doc or doula or midwife and whomever (if anyone besides yourself) you decide will be there to support you during the deliver. You can have music or movies or whatever you like. My delivery room was spacious and intimate...the recovery room had nice big windows for plenty of sunlight and plenty of space for visiting- a cot for my 4 year old & husband who spent one night. I chose to go with my newborn to the nursery for ear checks and first bath and all the little check ups they like to do on the newborns... there was the option to stay in the room, too, though if i had wanted to just relax and sleep. As far as i could tell the security was acceptable-- luckily i didn't have to find out. The food was pretty good-- i had people bringing me food fomr outside the hospital, too, though, so i don't recall really what was on the menu.
The shower in the recovery room wasn't the very best- the nurses did offer to for me to switch rooms because of it- wasn't bad enough to switch rooms.
The nurses were all very nice and caring-- all except for the phlebotomist who came in not more than 30 minutes after the delivery and turned on all the lights super bright (at 3am)-- her boss got a letter from me!!
Also, you may like to know: parking leaves a lot to be desired for your guests!!
Good luck! It's such a wonderfully major event-- hopefully it will be as unique as your first child birth!!
Congratulations!
