Sam's Club Formula

I have an 11 week old formula fed baby.(I was not able to breastfed as I never got milk in after three weeks) She currently uses Similac Advance with Iron and it seems to do very well for her. She is healthy and happy. I have a friend, however, who swears by the Sam's Club formula that is the same as Enfamil with LIpil. I was wondering if anyone had tried this formula and how they liked it. Also, is it hard to switch a formula. My daugher spits up some, but not excessivley, so my doctor said it is really up to me and that most formulas were the exact same.

What can I do next?

Same thing just a whole lot cheaper. I use BJs brand and I also buy diapers and wipes there. Never had a problem with the diapers either. Can't go wrong with Sams or BJs!

I had serious finacial problems when my second was born and we got WIC but it didn't cover everything so i would literally buy whatever was cheap, that i had a coupon for, or that someone gave me. he at one point or another was on every formula out there with no problems, and actually as a small infant he had reflux, and was on special formula till 6 months old and he still didn't have any issues after that.

watch out though, sometimes the cheaper brands use more powder so you aren't actually saving any money, just check lables and see how many bottles a can makes before you decide.

Store brand formulas are the same as name brand formulas. Infant formula is regulated, so it has to be good or else the store can't sell it. We used Enfamil Lipil with my daughter. I bought the comparative store brand from Target and it was great! We never had any problems. I was able to get twice as much for the same price.

I dont know about the Sam's Club one specifically, but we use Parents Choice-the Walmart brand one and love it. Its just something you'll have to try. We tried the Nestle Brand on our son and he refused to drink it. So, just try and see how baby does! I am sure she will be great.

I was buying Similac Advanced too and had a lot of people tell me that the sams club formula was the same and less expensive. So I tried it and my daughter is healthy and happy. She is not on it anymore but while she was it was great and did not cost as much. It also enabled me to get her diapers and formula in the same place. When I switched her to the different formula she was taking 8 oz at a time so I did 4oz of the Similac and 4 oz of the Sams and it worked out fine. R.'

We use the Sam's club brand forumla and also the Walgreens generic formula (Both are formulated the same as the Enfamil). No problems for us at all. Overall I have founds Sams club to be cheaper- but our local Sams' club is 30 mins away where Walgreens is only 5 mins away so if I get low on my supply I choose the Walgreens brand. Good luck!

Hi A.,

I too used the Sam's Club formula, and it is much cheaper. I also used the Wal-mart brand which is cheaper. I was switching from Similac as well and my daughter didn't seem to have any problems. I will definitely use it with my next one. If you notice your baby spitting up more, just try mixing the Sam's with the Similac for a bit. You can always switch back, but if it works it is a big money saver!!

My daughter was allergic to milk and soy so we had to use Nuetramigen which is $25.00 for a small can. When the allergy went away as most of them do, I was told the same thing about Sam's formula. I decided to try the Sam's brand because of the cost and I wasn't disappointed. It was the same and my little girl had no trouble adjusting to it. I also love the wipes by Sam's. Much cheaper and in my opinion, actually work better. I am due in Feb with my second and I am going to use Sam's products, including the diapers which I never got the chance to try. Good luck. N. H.

for manda-
I started my daughter on similac after six months of breast feeding and realized how much money I could save with the Sam's club(member's mark) brand. She is now two and a half and my six month old son is on it also with no problem. It is half the price of similac $19.98 for 3lbs vs. $31.00 for 2lbs and has all of the same ingredients...the only difference is that similac has paid for the studies on their formula. The Sam's brand is made by a company called PBM Nutritionals in VT, they make almost all of the generics: Parent's Choice at Walmart, Meijer's brand, Bright Beginnings available at Kroger, Target Brand.......I have bought them all and they are the same formula. This is nice if you can't get to Sam's and need to pick up a small can in a pinch. Hope this helps!! It has saved us a lot of money and my kids don't have any issue with it.

Hello A.. I honestly haven't used the Sam's brand; my oldest had to have GoodStart and my youngest was breastfed. If it were me, I would try it. I agree that the basics of formula are the same, and if your baby hasn't had any problems with the current formula, then try it. WIC and hospitals use Similac and promote Similac because the company that makes it bargans with them. The State (for WIC) gets Similac cheaper than the other formulas and Hospitals get it very cheap or free...that is why those agencies push parents to use Similac. However, if you choose to switch formulas (and Lord knows it is very expensive and money is tight these days) do it slowly by mixing the two together for a time so the change is not drastic on her system. If she appears to have a hard time adjusting, remember it takes time for her to adjust and if she has extreme symptoms, go back to the Similac. Congrats on your new baby and don't ever Apologise for doing what is in the best interest of YOUR family :)
