this is driving me crazy too -- i know that if you dont heat it its, fine, but still! i bought born free bottles for my 4m old (and primarily breastfeed anyway). it was easy enough for me to grab that one and pay the extra money. YET i realized i'm filling them with poland spring water, which comes in plastic bottles! we're slowly starting her on baby food now, and guess what -- i bought the gerber organic (again, easy enough to grab that one and pay the extra money) -- but its also in plastic container! i feel like i'm doing everything so half-a$%! frustrating!

Born Free bottles are the best on the market as per an article in the Bergen Record a few months ago. Avent does not make glass, but are to be on the safest side if you stick with plastic.

I use nurture pure, you can get them at nurturepure.com. They have great glass bottles at the health food stores but they are very heavy. Born free also has glass bottles and the plastic ones without the BPA. If you buy the glass be sure to get the bottle protectors to cover the glass because they break easily. I have broken 4 in 6 mths but I am clumsy. Good luck

E.,
to the best of my knowledge, any GLASS bottle will be fine.

You want to find silicone nipples or others that advertise no BPA or (<eeek> mommybrain took over and I can't remember the other chemical's shortie), phthalates.

Evenflo has some, Born Free has ones that combine both the bottle and chemical free nipple, though they are pricey, they do go fast (or at least they do in other places, BRU seems to keep a good supply on the shelf). I'm sure there are others, too.

Good luck!

One of the very unfortunate things about all this news is that no one seems to be talking about the BPA-free plastic bottles. Medela now makes bottles BPA-free and I bought a set of bottles from Mother's Milk Mate (with which I use Medela nipples). I believe that Dr. Brown's also makes BPA-free plastic bottles. My 6-month old son goes to daycare and I send pumped milk with him. They don't allow glass bottles so I was happy to learn about these plastic alternatives. I saw that you can find both of the Medela and Mothers Milkmate options at this website - http://www.birthandbabyorders.com/index.php?c=28
Good luck! Spread the word....

The person who responded below hit the nail on the head. Never microwave formula in a bottle, hand wash never dishwash. The issue is when the plastic breaks down, if you are careful it is fine.

Glass bottles are gaining popularity again...EVENFLO has brought them back as well as other companies. I just saw a 6pack for 14.95 in Babies R Us. I'm sure you can get them on-line as well. Born Free is another great brand with both glass and plastic bottles, BPA free so at least you have a choice. Go online and you'll find the born free website and you can view all your choices. What with all the controversy with plastic bottles lately, I'd want to do glass bottles as well. Good luck.

Glass is BPA free but so are Born Free bottles...they are also wonderful is that they regulate the amount of air your baby takes in. Not much gas and easily released when burping!

Advent, and Dr Browns

--FYI I have never had any problems with PLASTIC bottles for my children, my oldest is 12 years old,

HOWEVER I never heated them or any other plastics in the microwave NOR the dishwasher, i simply fed them room temperature formula and foods. And hand washed their bottles.

Check out the website http://thesoftlanding.wordpress.com/

They are constantly updating their blog with information on all things BPA free such as bottles, toys, teethers, sippy cups, etc. Its a great resource.

I use the Adiri Natural Nurser bottles for my 4 month old baby. They are BPA free.

Born Free bottles. You can order th glass one online at Babies r us I think you can also go to their direct website which you'll have to google because it's different from the name of the bottle. We use the plastic ones which have no PVCs or nay other harmful chemicals.

Dr. Brown bottles are not bpa free. However, Dr. Brown does make a glass bottle & will be coming out with bpa free plastic bottles sometime soon. Walmart sells Parent's Choice bpa free bottles for $2.96 for a 3 pack, which work with the Dr. Brown inserts. That is what I have switched to.
My blog has a couple of posts on the topic with links to bpa free info. You are welcome to check it out:

I too was going to switch to glass and went to Babies R' Us. I found out that Dr. Brown's just came out with BPA free plastic bottles. They are not clear and they are a lot thicker.

You don't need to buy glass bottles. Dr. Brown's bottles are BPA free and they also reduce gas and colic!

E., don't know if you found what you were looking for, but I wanted to share two sites I found when researching BPA info:
http://zrecs.blogspot.com/2008/02/z-report-on-bpa-in-infa...
and http://thesoftlanding.wordpress.com/

Both were very useful in helping me decide what bottles to use for my (almost) three month old. (I ended up choosing Green to Grow b/c I needed an option that was compatible with my Medela breast pump and was also compatible with different nipples that are good for nursing babies - their nipples have too fast of a flow for my little one.)
