This is a decision only you as the parent can make.
All kids are different, so are scary movies!

~I let my boys (9&7) watch Jaws with me but I would never let them watch something like Poltergeist, WAY too scary ...& a totally different type of scary! Ya know?

Pick a scared/not so scared one to start. Let her watch it during the day, not at night.

It really depends on the child, and it depends on what movie you're talking about. My niece watched the first three Harry Potter movies before she was 5, but at least one of her cousins would have been terrified.

I just asked my 7 year what the scariest movie he had ever seen was, and he said "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" (because of one scene), and "Electra" (which I haven't seen. He's also seen all of the Spider-Man and Avengers movies (I mean all of the movies about each of the Avengers) and all three Jurassic Park movies. My SIL would say all of those would be way too scary for her 6 year old.

You know your child. Would she be scarred?

We watched "Warm Bodies" a couple of weeks ago. There are some scary moments, but even my "I don't like scary movies" 10 year old liked it.

You have to start slowly, and be careful about content. A little terror is okay. But sexual violence isn't. A bit of gore is okay. But realistic horror with insane characters might not be right for a 9 year old.

I think "Warm Bodies" would be a good start. And then, some classic horror, like "Night of the Living Dead" or others with no scary sexually charged scenes are good. Check on Netflix to see if the "Goosebumps" series is on there for some more age appropriate scary stuff.

It depends on the child, the movie and your definition of scary. I am a huge fan of horror movies. When my boys were little they watched plenty of "scary" movies, but made for kids, like Goosebumps, Scooby Doo and Monster House. Now at age 7 and 10 they see pretty much all the same scary movies and shows I like to watch. They never had any issues with being frightened of these movies and know that they aren't real. We are all really excited to see World War Z in the theatre soon!

Do your research first, then make an educated decision based on your child's personality. Obviously, depends on the movie.

Depends on what movie you are talking about and what you think your child can handle.

My kids are 6 & 9 and I will let them watch PG-13 movies depending on the content on what I think they can handle. I've never let them watch R rated movies though. And my 6 year old find some scenes in PG movies scary but not scary enough for her to not watch them.

What scary movie are you talking about in particular? It's a big genre :) Our daughter is 8 and loves scary movies. She just watched Jaws with us and was fine. She also enjoys all the Haunting Hour series and GooseBumps, as well. In our area, they are on the HUB network. If you ever want to look up what movies are age-appropriate for your child, this is a great resource. It also includes video games, etc:

Depends on how scary. Do you know the rating? My nephew used to get scared with the ghost in Scoobie Doo but I would allow a 9 year old to watch that movie😊
