School's Waiting List

I recently found a montessori that was near our home. I went and met with the director. She told me they had immediate openings. She said I just had to pay the registration/supply fee and fill out the paperwork. She said as soon as the paper work was filled the kids could start. I gave her a check for $350 and had the doctor fill out the necessary forms. I never heard from them. I called 3 weeks later and they told me someone else got in and that I would have to wait maybe until sometime in the summer for an opening. I asked if I could have a refund and they said that is the cost of registration/supplies and to have me on the waiting list. Does this sound right? I would have to pay another registration fee upon entry. I feel like I got ripped off.

Does anyone know of mother's day out program in the central Dallas area? My kiddos love school. I don't need daycare or full time.

It definitely sounds like you were taken advantage of by the school. If I were you, I would definitley insist on a refund. I can understand up to a $100.00 application/registration fee but $350.00 seems very high.
My son is 3 years old and has been at Wilshire Baptist PDO for almost 2 years now. They have a 1,2, or 3 day program and are reasonably priced, too. It is a very loving environment and I would highly recommend it. Good luck to you and please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

You should not have to pay for another registration fee once a space opens up....you've paid that fee and that fee allows you to be on the waitlist.
I had a friend tell me that she paid her money and waited on the waitlist and once a spot opened up in the spring she was let in easily because she already filled out the forms and paid the fees - she did not pay another fee.

Do you have a copy of the forms you signed? If not, I would demand to see them to see if the "small print" says anything about conditions for refunds.

If you want to remain on the waitlist, unfortunately they can keep that money, but if you no longer want to be on the waitlist you should get some of it back. And you should NOT have to pay another fee if a space opens up. I mean, your child is not technically "registered" until he/she is accepted/attending school. How can they charge a "registration fee" when s/he's just waiting to be in school? They should call it an application fee or processing fee -- if they are saying it costs something to file a piece of paper on a waitlist.

I am so sorry for what happened to you. Unfortunately I do not know a school in that area that you live but I do know that you should get your refund back because me as a mother would not want my children to go a place that treated me that way.
Good Luck!

I have paid a deposit, but only registration/supplies when enrolled. I would persistently explain that I was NOT registered and therefore need my registration fee back.
