My son goes to elementary school that I dont consider to be very good. The teachers are ok but there is no parent involvement and many of the children seem like they come from bad homes/ learning bad words and behaviors at home. I plan on moving him to a new school in the Fall. Do any of you have good recommendations for schools I should look at? My son is currently in the 1st grade.

What can I do next?

My son attends a National Heritage Academy and we are very pleased with his academic performance, moral focus and teacher quality. He does not attend the one in Eastpointe but overall all I have a great things about the majority of the NHA schools. I would encourage you to check out the one in your area and see if it is a good fit for you.

I have twin boys that will be starting school in September. I have been researching forever and as long as we get in (I hope) I am planning on sending them to Reach Charter Academy in Roseville. I have tour the school several times and been to many meetings, so far, it seems like a really great place.

I'm assuming you live on the Eastside of Detroit (I'm a former Eastsider myself)? My son will be attending Pinewood elementary in Warren in the fall. They're located near 12/Schoenherr area. I've been to this school a couple time already and they have a very advanced learning program and an "open layout" in the school---which means its a wall-less school. Give them a call to take a tour and get some good info.
