Scooters

My seven year old has wanted a scooter for a while. I have encouraged her to be more interested in learning to ride her bike!! She loves to ride but is so hesitant to give up the training wheels even though she knows how to without. My bad for not working with her every single day.
That said, she has saved up her OWN money to get one. Do you know anything about them? Are the unsafe? I know to wear a helmet with them, are there good ones or bad ones?
Will this help her with her bike or maybe make that even harder for her to want to ride her bike.
I am so wanting both of my kids to like bike riding so the three of us can go out and they are so resistant and I have no idea.
So any info would be greatly appreciated as I know nothing about scooters!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks EVERYONE! Very helpful. I took her to Target, she bought herself a Razor scooter, PINK! :)
She was so excited, has been outside every day for a long time riding it, now her little brother wants one for his fifth birthday. It encouraged him to jump on his bike (with training wheels) and ride with her! She did great, has great balance and I like the idea that maybe learning balance will help her feel more secure in ridding ourselves of training wheels and riding bikes this summer. She isn't fond of wearing a helmet however that is my biggest rule with it. She happily rode it to school. There was a huge sense of pride too since she bought it with her own money!!!!!
Thanks all!

Scooters are awesome! The one we buy is called Razor. They come in blue, black, and red I think. They are great for the children to ride to school, and if you want to come along, you can walk fast along side or jog.
Bikes are great too, I think that a scooter won't take the place of a bike, it's just another way to get health and fitness in. You may just use them in different situations.
Have fun!

Hi D.,
I have a daughter 6 and a son 5 both have scooters and the scooter actual helped my daughter to learn to ride her bike without her training wheels and she basically taught herself with no help from mommy and daddy. I have to admit I was in shock, but I think the scooter really helps them learn the balancing thing. Kids are amazing and resilient creatures. So my advice is I would go ahead and let her. She may even learn to ride her bike quicker like my little girl did.

Good Luck….

My niece wanted a dirt bike and her parents told her if she rode her bike without training wheels she could have one. Within 5 minutes she was riding the bike, and now she has her new dirt bike.

Razor scooters are a good brand and come in a variety of colors and even designs like Barbie, Spider-man etc. These are good wheeled toys for kids too. It teaches them balancing in different ways and even has a brake at the back. You can adjust the handle bar to fit the child's size. All 3 of my kids have a bike and scooter. They like having a choice and they can get plenty of excercise w/both. Having them wear a helmet and closed toed shoes is always a good idea. They usually run anywhere from $25-45 depending on brand, how fancy etc. I would encourage your daughter to ride her bike first w/out training wheels and then reward her w/being able to buy the scooter.

My kids love scooters. Even my 5 year old loves to ride one and has no problems on it. He also rides his bike. I don't see any reason they can't do both. I have not had any problems with injuries on the scooters, although I would encourage them to wear shoes when they scooter (something my kids always seem to forget).
