Hi moms. My son (almost 6) and daughter (3) have been very blessed to get to know their great grandparents. The live about an hour away part of the year and up north the other part of the year. My grandparents are getting older and I really want to make something special for my children so that when they're no longer around they can have something to look back at. I've decided to make a scrapbook for each child and I have a few ideas for the pages and would love some input from you as to what else I should include. So far here is what I plan to have in the book. 1. My child's first picture taken with their great grandmother and a little story about the first time they met. 2. Birth stats of my child, their great grandmother, and their great grandfather. 3. A letter written to each child--one from grandmother and one from grandfather. 4. The most recent photo of both of my children with the great grandparents. I want this to be a very special book that they can look at when they're older and think of just how lucky they were that they got to spend as much time with their great grandparents as they have. Any ideas of what I can add to the book would be great. Thanks in advance!

Ask your great grandparents questions about themselves - when they met, who was their best friend growing up, what was their favorite song, movie, etc, and include their answers in the scrapbook.

There are tons of life questions you can ask them...I'm sure you can find a list online somewhere.

I hope it turns out great!

A description of their lineage would be nice too, her maiden name and his sur name. Pictures of those particular family seals, any famous people in the family line. When they settled in america. Basically anything of note.

I did this in my daughters first scrapbooks, of which they have many.

But i think im going to totally steal your idea. My husband and i have no parents, and i also have no g-parents. he has both of his and they live near-by. We see them all the time , they are 85 and 90 and even though they are quite healthy it cant last forever. They are all we have left. Its a wonderful idea.

How about including a favorite recipe or a food memory that your children's great grandparents have?

And do the great grandparents have any photos of themselves when they were younger? That would be nice to include.

See if you can get some kind of recording or video of them speaking a message to your children, or reminiscing. Transfer it to a CD or DVD and keep that in an envelope in the back of the scrapbook.

I'm working on a family heritage scrapbook for my kids. I'm doing a digital scrapbook using Creative Memories software and it has become a fascinating journey for me.

I love this idea! How thoughtful of you to do this!

When I was in middle school, all the 8th graders had to do a project on a family member of their chosing. I chose my great grand mother. I collected photographs, took pictures of her wedding gown, wrote down stories about her life, made a family tree, included her wedding picture and her wedding certificate, and her birth certificate. I still have the report I did beck then because I learned so much.

Perhaps you could hve your grandparents write dpwn some stories about their liives, maybe about how they met, where they were born, their school years, how they got married, etc. If writing is too difficult for them, you could take a tape recorder and have then tell the stories and you can transcribe them later.

The one thing I cherish the most out of the report I did the most is the family tree. It's like meeting my family without them even being here. The one I did starts with my great gramothers parents and ends with me, but you could start with your grandparents wedding and include everyond from there.

About the design, use your own creativity! It doesn't have to look any special way. Work with what you have, and the design will come to you as you gather the materials.

There is nothing quite like preserving family history. I can tell you that yur kids will thank you for doing this for them. I know I cherish the project I did! Good luck with you scrapbook!

That is a wonderful idea. I just lost my great grandma 2 weeks ago, she died at 98, she had great great great grandchildren. Also, have your children, maybe your 6 year old could write down what he likes to do with great grandparents. You could write for your daughter, but maybe she could draw a picture of them and you could label it. Now, I have no idea how your grandparent's hand writing is, but if they can't write too well maybe you could write a story down of when they were young, then teen/20's, midlife story. Maybe a story of what school was like when they went. Make a list of their favorites... I know my grandparents handwriting is don't as good as it use too, so maybe they can't write a lot. But they have so many stories that if you don't get down, you sure wish you would have... Just think of all the things they have seen in their life, AMAZING!!!

You truly are bless and so are your children to even be able to talk to them.

One thing I do cherish is my 5 generation picture of my great grandma, grandma, mom, daughter and self.

Do their great grands have pictures of themselves as babies? or while growing up? Maybe they could write some stories about what it was like growing up when they were little. Your kids will be amazed at what we didn't have - computers, dvd players, etc....
