My daughter went for her 6-month check-up and shots yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, 12/8). She had 3 of the shots she had before and we also gave her the seasonal flu shot. A few hours after we got home she had diarrhea and has had it at least 5 times since then. She also started throwing up this evening. She feels warm and is running a low grade fever but nothing too bad. She doesn’t have an appetite and is fussy off and on. Mostly she just wants to sleep. We just gave her 2oz formula and then followed with 2oz Pedialyte to replace what she is losing from the diarrhea and vomiting. We called the ER and asked a nurse if this could be from the shots today and she said yes, it is a reaction to the flu shot. I feel so bad for my baby and wish there was more I could do. Now I am wondering if I made the right decision to get the flu shot (not that it matters now). Have any of your babies ever had a reaction like this to the flu shot?
EDIT: She got DTaP, Polio, Prevnar, HIB, Hep B. And then the seasonal flu shot. It was a total of 4 shots (poor baby). I called the Dr's office this morning and they said it would not be a reaction to the shots, she must have had a virus before she came or got it while she was at the office.
nvic.org is a great website that just gives FACTS, not opinions on different vaccinations. I suggest you go on there and see what you can find. They do not tell you to or not to get vaccines. They just present the info, news releases, and FACTS about them.
I am stunned that your doctor would do all those vaccines at one time. Most likely your baby IS having a reaction but the doctor is going to say that your child had a previous virus to so that you don't question any more.
Keep on pushing fluids and then contact the doctor's office to let them know that you will only allow one vaccine at a time. I know a family that has 2 vaccine injured kids and they can't do anymore vaccs. They really wish they would have done an alternate schedule.
I am so sorry your little one isn't feeling well! You are doing the right thing by pushing fluids and keeping an eye on her!
edit**** I want to clarify, since so many are saying that your daughter can't get the flu from the shot. Our bodies are designed to fight against harmful substances. The shots you listed contain mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde, monosodium glutamate, petroleum products, etc. Those are the substances that your daughter's body is reacting to, not the flu virus itself. Your doctor did you a disservice by doing so many shots at once.
Having those 4 shots at once was not the best idea. I wish doctors would advise better. Next time have the necessary ones separated out. I would not bother with seasonal flu vaccines at all. Instead, try to keep her immune system strong.

Not to scare you, but I am kind of P.O.d at our government scaring the public in this manner. My nephew who is 7 years old got the swine flu and he is fine. My sister said it was no different than the regular flu.
My daughter's friend got the swine flu SHOT and is now paralyzed from the neck down.!
If they would've listed the ingredients in the swine flu...I think people would've had a better understanding of the "side effects"/.

It's not from the flu shot. She may be an ER nurse but that doesn't mean that she's going to know everything. Her specialization is emergencies not immunizations. Call your doctors office. It sounds to me like she may have picked up the flu while at the office. What most people assume is a reaction to the flu shot is actually just the flu picked up before receiving the shot.
I don't see how they could say it's from the flu shot or pin point it to that.
When my dd got her her 6mos.shots last winter she got diarreha for a month straight. She DIDNOT have a flu shot. My doctor said she either had a reaction to one of her shots or she picked up a bug while in the dr. office. It was horrible but it was not from the flu shot. I personally think it was from the rotavirus vaccine.
Some shots are immunodepressants, meaning they will depress the immune system... so getting that many shots in one day will really really weaken the immune system, and all kids react differently.
My advice? Look into delayed vaccinations. I would never in a million years allow my child to have more than one vaccination at a time because I'm not cool with the 'chemical cocktail' of vaccinations running through their systems like that. My kids received one vaccination at a time starting at 6mos, at least 2mos between vaccinations, and no MMR until age 4. No chicken pox, no Hep A, and absolutely NO flu shots at all.
Please research Dr Sears' vaccine schedule. We don't follow it, but it will give you a guideline of a delayed schedule and open up your eyes a bit to the effects of so many vaccines at one time.
So it likely wasn't caused BY the vaccines, but her weakened immune system likely picked up a bug or it caused this reaction. Thats alot of stuff running through her body at one time. Keep an eye on her though, she can dehydrate quickly at this age.
I never seen my kids and granddaughter get those symptoms from the flu shots and we got them each year. I have seen them from the DPT shots though. I agree with the other readers that too many shots at once is too much and contact your doctor to make sure all is fine with her.
Before you take the nurse's word for it, I would investigate a little more. If your child had an ACTIVE virus in her vaccine, it MIGHT give her a touch of the flu. Most vaccines are inactive, and absolutely will not give you a touch of the flu. Those "side effects" are not listed on the forms they give you, and I have not seen them listed on other places I've looked. My kids and I have been vaccinated against seasonal flu every year and we have never experienced side effects remotely close to that, nor have I heard of them from anyone else. My guess would be that she caught a stomach bug... I would, however, definitely confer with your doctor before her next set of vaccines. Obviously, your doctor knows far more on the subject than I do, and I could be completely wrong. I was surprised to find that my 18 month old son wound up with a very, very mild case of measles (the rash and nothing else) from his live measles vaccine. (He didn't even feel bad; just had a funny rash, but it caught me off guard!)
My second son was about 1 when he got the flu shot. The next day he started running a fever, then by day 2 he was so sick I almost took him in to the ER. He wouldn't eat or drink. The dr.'s told me the same thing, he must have picked up a virus, it's not from the shot. I didn't believe them, my brother would get sick when he had the shot, and no he wasn't allergic either. After that I never had my kids get the shot. I worked in a hospital about a year ago and I refused the shot. They told me you can't get sick from it, but everyone I worked with who got the shot was sick after about a day or two, and I never did get the flu. I think they say you can't get sick from it just so you get the shot, probably because the actual flu is worse than the side effects from the shot.
