My 12 year old daughter who is homeschooled would really like to be part of a chior. Are any of you moms aware of any chiors for her age that are not affiliated with a school or church. Does anyone know of a chior formed by homeschoolers? We live on the far north side of Chicago so it could be in the northern suburbs. Any information would be appreciated.

my daughter was in the Chicago Children's Choir. They have a zillion facets to their program. Hers was school based, but they also have neighborhood based choirs and the 'concert choir' which you have to be in either the neighborhood or school choir first.

It is an OUTSTANDING program. Auditions should be anytime now for the neighborhood choir, so I would check them out online!

Ditto previous poster - my almost 14 year old daughter has been in the Chicago Children's Choir for years. She loves it, we love it and it's a great organization. It is well-run and professional. Check out their website for more info - ccchoir.org. They have many neighborhood choirs throughout the city that each have kids from multiple schools and kids who are homeschooled. I cannot recommend them enough. My daughter has learned so much including sight reading and has had many, many fabulous experiences including choir tours out of state and singing at Ravinia twice so far.

Try the Evanston Childrens' Choir (www.evanstonchildrenschoir.org). We know the director, Gary Geiger, very well. It's not affiliated with homeschoolers but it is top-notch!
