Seeking a Group for My Daughter

It has been almot 3 months since my daughter and I lost my husband. I work until 6:00pm and don't get home until 7:00 pm most nights because of picking her up from relative's house. I am looking for a group that might help us both with dealing with her father's passing at such a youg age. My husband was 28 years old when he passed. I have been to therapy before for other things and have not been too impressed. Please do not send requests for therapy. I am looking for a more open thing with others that have been through the same thing (If there is such a thing). I would not mind group therapy. I just want to be able to help myself. The grief is difficult. Any suggestions would be helpful.

What can I do next?

Hi A.,

I just wanted to say that I am sorry for you and your daughter's loss. It looks like some wonderful moms have given you some great places to start - just know God will guide you.

You and your little girl are in my prayers.

A.,

My church, Valley Presbyterian, has a center called New Song which addresses grief in children specifically. Hope you can find some help there.I know several of the people who work there and have the highest opinion of them.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I haven't lost a husband but I did lose a brother, mom and dad within the course of three years. It seemed like the grieving would never stop. My children truly made me get up every day.

I haven't stopped grieving my loved ones but the grief does seem to be less raw now. You will be in my prayers as you work through this.

Feel free to send a message if you want to talk.

Hi, A.--I am so sorry to hear about your husband. Check out the New Song Center---their website is newsongcenter.org I have heard they are excellent, and they specialize in helping children deal with grief. I am a crisis counselor, and often refer clients to their programs. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I just sent you a private message. Sadly, I am also a widow and I understand what you're going through. I have found some good sources of support and have sent you a message. Take care -- I know how scary this journey is (I'm 21 months into it) but I promise -- in time, it will get easier to cope. Just take each it day by day...minute by minute if you need to.

Hi A.,
I work for Hospice of Arizona and we have several support groups for parents and children a year. Unfourtunately our next one will be in the fall. In the mean time, there is the New Song Center for Grieving Children - http://www.thenewsongcenter.org/ They are a great resource and have groups for children. There's also Stepping Stones of Hope - http://www.steppingstonesofhope.org They have camps and groups. Then ASU has a Prevention Program that works with children who have had a parent die. It is run by Dr Tim Ayers and he is a great resource. Most of the these organization offer some help for the parents as well. I do have several support groups for adults and most are for spouses. If you would like further information, feel free to contact me.

Hello A.,
I am so sorry for you and your family... I cannot even imagine what you must be going through. There is a website called www.meetup.com and it is a place where people with the same interests in the same geographical area get together. Perhaps you can find others locally who are going through or have gone through something similar.
