Seeking a Pediatric Dermatologist

I'm seeking a pediatric dermatologist in the Frisco area. All three of my children have eczema. We have tried so many lotions and medications. It all seems to help for a little while and then the creams seem to stop working. I don't want to keep using steriod creams because it can thin out the skin. My 6 yr. old dauther's skin is really bad mainly on her feet. She will sit and scratch them until they bleed. Their skin seems to be worse in the summer than in the winter probablly due to all the swimming they do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

What can I do next?

My friend has a 7 mo. old baby who they thought always had a horrible case of eczema. It was getting worse and worse and they had him tested for allergies. Turns out he is allergic to milk, eggs and peanuts. My friend has cut these out of her diet (she is nursing) and he as greatly improved. You might try checking into allergies- at least to rule that out.
Good Luck.

My neighbors son has eczema really bad. She just took him to the Dermatologist. He recommended using no soap at all, expect once a week. To use only clear clean water for shower and bath time. Lotramin (sp) Lotion to help with the dryness. To make sure that he really rinses off well after the pool.

That's the best I can tell you. Good luck, I know how miserable this can be, simply because I am a diabetic and my skin gets so dry it drives me nuts! Even as an adult I will scratch till it bleeds!! :)

I have dealt with this for years with my son and with my nephew. this may sound weird but it works.
I give my son a cool bath no soap then pat his skin dry, apply vaseline. then wet a pair of cotton pj's in cool water wring out so they are just damp,( also socks to cover feet) put them on and then cover with dry pj's my son is clear by morning and sleeps through the night we started this when he was about 14 months old. After he was 2 we started him on zyrtec which was great and now we just do the pj thing when he has a eczema attack.
Also he has attacks when he eats or takes meds that contain red or orange dyes.
Best of luck. I know it can be hard to hear and not helpful but most children do out grow this. If you want you can e mail me ____@____.com
PS do not use any fabric softner or dye/pefumes in detergent All brand has a dye free detergent.

M.,
There are no strictly pediatric dermatologists in Frisco - meaning no physicians that are double boarded in both Pediatrics and Dermatology...in fact, there are only 2 in North Texas: Dr. Robin Carder in Dallas and Dr. Fred Ghali in Grapevine.

Many dermatologists are excellent treating children. I feel it truly depends on their training and personal disposition.

I recommend Eric Weisberg, M.D. (board certified dermatologist) located in Frisco at the hard corner of Legacy and Eldorado (4685 Eldorado Parkway # 100, Frisco 75034, tel.###-###-####).

He sees a lot of children with eczema & trained with Dr. Robin Carder at Children's. Also, I have heard his son has eczema :-)

My son has eczema as well and we have seen both Dr. Carder and Dr. Weisberg. Both excellent! Dr. Park (mentioned by another mama) is excellent as well - both she and Dr. Weisberg trained with Dr. Carder.

Good luck; I feel your frustration!

Have you looked into allergies, what might be causing the eczema? My son had eczema as a baby and when we discovered he was allergic to soy and illiminated it his skin cleared. Now that he's 7, I can tell when soy has creeped back into his diet (processed cookies and crackers from school and soccer) because the eczema comes back. Best of luck!

Our pediatrician currently treats our son's excema - never used our dermatologist for it yet. However, have used our pediatric dermatologist for my oldest & have another appt to see her for my youngest - both unrelated to excema. She is wonderful with the kids (she has a son herself). The sweetest person I have met, great bedside manner, etc... only problem, she is a "drive" as she is a Medical City Dallas off Forest and Hwy 75. (It takes me about 40 minutes without major traffic from Frisco to get there, but I think she is worth it.)

Her name is Dr. Park and from memory I believe her number is ###-###-####.. let me know if that doesn't work and I'll confirm.

Good luck,
D.
