Seeking Advice for 3 Month Old Skin Irritation

My 4th child was a whopping 9 lbs 12 oz. Because of his size, he has rolls of fat. He has 3 rolls around his neck that is sore and irritated. I am having a hard time keeping it dry but he sweats in it anyway. Do you think diaper rash ointment will clear it up? I'll be calling the doctor on Monday. He cries when I try to wipe it dry so I know it hurts him.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice but in this case I went with my own. I generously applied Desitin around his neck. By the next day the dark red irritation had cleared. I am now using cotton bibs to help soak up the dribble to prevent the yeast infection (since cotton breathes).

My middle daughter was HUGE! and she had rolls on top of her rolls, LOL. Be careful because she too had irritations in the creases of her rolls and cried when I tried to wipe them, well we were at the doctor one day and showed her A's "roll" problems and she said that they were yeast infections at this point and that is why they weren't going away. She said that regular cortizone, lotions, antibiotic creams etc. would not take them away, we had to use something for the yeast-she told me that I could use vagisil and believe it or not, it went away! It will help to use products that don't contain harsh chemicals and toxins. Examples; your laundry detergent, baby wash (it contains q15 - a formaldahyde releaser), lotion, cleaners in the house (especially one that are sprayed). I've been using these types of products for almost 3 yrs now and my kids who had very sensitive skin, now don't have any problems! Plus we are healthier and I know they're safer!! Also getting these chemicals/toxins out will help with issues like allergies, asthma and excema :o)

Good luck!

Hi M.,
I so get the big rolly polly babies. Mine were 9 lbs 6 oz and 10lb 3oz. Because of their rolls I constantly used Almond oil massaging it into the rolls a few times thru out the day. If there was a place where the skin was raw I would also put some 100% Lanolin in the creases, keeping the creases lubricated thus never allowing them to be able to rub skin on skin until it heals. Then putting the lanolin on a few times a day even once its healed. I'm not sure where u live but the vitamin shop has these product usually but they r a bit expensive u can buy them online or there is a natural health store in Roanoke can't remember its name but they have the lanolin for great prices. If u r stuck u can use Lansinoh (for breastfeedng mother) its just really expensive for the quantity u will need.

Hope this helps

Mertees

My first son was only 7 lbs., but had irritated skin on his neck, too. The pedi said it was from formual that he spit up that ran down onto his neck. He told me to clean and dry it thoroughly every morning . Use a blow dryer on low cool setting to dry it if you can. If not or it scares him just blow on it until it is really dry. Then apply an ointment with oil in it like Vasaline or Aquafor to seal out the wetness that may come from formula or drool. This worked for mine, but if it is from sweat then obviously it won't work. The doctor may prescribe a cream for him. I have a 15 month old son, too. He weighed 9lbs. 13 oz. Good luck!!

you might also try aquaphor. clean as well as you can then apply; it's a thick gel that works like a liquid bandaid. good luck.
