C.,
Good for you!
Another place for you to try to get referrals is St. David's in Minnetonak. They have a high number of special needs children in the young ages.
My husband and I moved to MInnetonka this fall, after living and teaching overseas for 5 years. In our adjustments to being back in the states and living on one teacher income, we are struggling to maintain finances for me to continue staying home with our daughter. I'm also pregnant and due in August with our second and would like to stay on one income as long as possible. I am a licensed teacher in Learning Disabilities/Special Education and I would prefer to stick to that area, but am open to others as well. Since we arrived I have been trying to get some afternoon/evening remedial tutoring work started and so far what I've come up with has been rewarding, but very inconsistent. I've used craigslist to post ads, been in touch with the community education of the Minnetonka area and am tutoring through Groves Academy. I would really appreciate any other ideas of how to get my remedial work rolling better.

Have you joined ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education)? That would be a great contact for you to actually interact with other teachers and find out what you can do to get your name out there. What about contacting the school superintendent in your area? Other moms in your neighborhood may know more people since they've lived their longer. Your local mom's club would also be a good resource. I know that most of the mom's I've met through Mom's club of bloomington are/have been teachers and seem to know everyone and/or everything. In other words, they are great resources. Good luck!
Hi C.
My husband Christopher is self employed and I just felt a calling last Sept. to go back to work a couple days a week, but for almost 6 years was a SAHM. I have a clinical social work license and focus on helping families stay together utilizing a Christian perspective.
The opportunity that allowed me to stay home, fills in the gaps of my husband's up and down income, and has rid my daughter of her eczema is simply sharing with other mom's and families an alternative store to shop for necessity items they already are buying now. The difference is for simply using an incredible product line and shopping at a different store we save money and time shopping for a higher quality natural products that are delivered to the door vs. for me, spending 8 hours a month in Target. I work very part time and we have our bills paid simply because I am endorsing an incredible product line.
I would love to share the information with you and see if it makes sense for you and your family.
God Bless

Some other options would be to do daycare for some neighborhood families. Even taking in a couple kids would help a little with income.
Or you could sell Mary Kay, Weekenders, Lia Sophia jewelry, Pampered Chef, or one of those things if you were interested. Some people do really well with that. You could have evening parties when your husband can be home with the kids. Just a thought. Good luck!
I will say, daycare is extremely expensive, and is just getting more and more so. Think about that as well- is what you will pay for daycare for two kids (including an infant) worth you going back to work, or will you simply be working to pay for childcare?
I currently tutor with a service called Club Z. I work my own hours and find that because the parents sign a contract with the company it is more consistent. I work as many hours as I want during the week. I currently tutor 4 hours a week, but in the past I did 8 hours a week. Right now, both mine and my husband's schedules don't allow for more. I am also in the process of getting my MN license. I have a CA teaching license. I then plan to try and get a job with a local district teaching the ABE or adult ELL classes at night.
You can also try adveritising within your local district. Ask if you can print out fliers and pass them out to the LD and special ed. classes.
Good luck,
M.
My friend is a SAHM with a degree in special education and she works part-time at Sylvan Learning Center. She really likes it and I don't think it was very difficult to get a job there as I think they're always looking for people to work on Saturdays and nights. That way, she works one night a week and for a few hours on Saturday. You can try Huntington as well. Good luck!
Look at St. Davids - a wonderful school in Minnetonka (Mtka Blvd and Plymouth Road) that specializes in high needs children. They may have part time, evening or specialized help you can offer. Worth contacting and then they have a wonderful pre-school (both my kids have gone) that is for both kids w/ and w/o special needs. Good luck! L.

My family and I moved to Edina from Austin Texas almost 2 years ago. We had a very difficult time adjusting to the cost of living up here. I was a former first grade teacher, but did not want to go back to work. So...I started my own home business with Arbonne and have been able to bring in an additional stream of income and continue to be a stay at home mom. I am able to work my business around my families needs. I do not have to carry inventory and the start up cost was only $29! You can view the products and the opportunity at www.arbonne.com. Being a part of Arbonne has change my life and I couldn't be happier! I would love to tell you more over the phone or over coffee.
Arbonne just launched their international expansion. They launched Austrailia and the UK in 2007 and are expanding to 2 new countries for the next 4 years. I'd love to know where you moved from? Call or email me anytime. ###-###-####
The products can change your skin, the opportunity can change your life!
