Seeking Advise for Preschools in Downers Grove

My family is moving to South Downers Grove this summer and I'm looking for suggestions about preschool. Before I decided to stay at home with my children I was a preschool teacher myself so I'm really disappointed that I won't be able to observe many of the classes. I know the Park District has openings but I would like to look at all my options. Any advise good or bad would help so much. Thanks!

My son has just finished his first year at the Indian Boundary YMCA in DG. He loved it. They have free swimming lessons as well for kids enrolled in the program. He will be in the morning 4-5 class next year and can't wait. He even dreams about school he loves it so much. The teachers are really great. Welcome to DG!!

Hi C.,

I've had my oldest daughter at the YMCA program for 2 years. They have a 2, 3 and 4-5 year old program. I've been very happy with the staff and program they offer and in addition to the preschool program they offer free swimming lessions to the 3 and 4-5 year old classes.

The emphasis for the 3's was encouraging independence and teaching the children about respect and responsibility in addition to a standard art and education cirriculum.

Best of luck and welcome to DG!

J.

I sent my son to Immanuel Lutheran Preschool ###-###-####). It is on Carpenter, just west of town. The director, Linda Stumpf, is great. I don't know if there are openings, but its worth a try. The classes are about 16 kids with a lead teacher and an assistant. They do a great job with teaching the academics as well as social. There is a strong religious base in the curriculum. I liked the small town feel of the program and was impressed with how much my son learned under the care of the teachers. I live just south of 55th and west of Main, so this was also a wonderful location for me.

Our youngest son attends the school district preschool (dist 58) at Indian Trail. I don't know if they have openings, but it is a really nice preschool and we've been very happy. Our son LOVES it.

Our oldest son attended the park district preschool, which was also very nice and he enjoyed it too.
