Hi, my name is Dr. Sandra S.. I am a Chiropractor with locations in Mesquite and in Plano. I have worked with many children that have/had ADHD. I use nutritional supplementation, allergy testing and treatment, cold laser therapy and chiropractic manipulation to treat children with ADHD and have had dramatic results. If you are intersted, or if you have any questions, please feel free to call me at ###-###-#### or ###-###-####. It can be very frustrating! I hope you find relief for all of you!

You have my empathy on the ADHD treatments. I've been though many of them with my son. Recently, we've tried the new ADHD patch with our son. It is called Daytrana and it is manufactured by Shire. We started using this patch in December, you put it on first thing in the a.m. and it lasts for 9 hours. It is put on the skin (in the hip area) at the mg the doctor prescribes, then it needs to be removed after 9 hours and it will continue in the system for another 3 hours at reduced levels. We have notice significant difference in our son's concentration and behavior at school. He is now able to participate in class, complete his work, and not be a destraction to the teacher. He still has some problems with his ADHD. No medicine will completely cure him, but I would deffinitely recommend asking for a trial prescription from your doctor.

The only negative problem we've incurred was removing the patch from the backing. In our first batch about 4 of them would not detach. Also, another inconvenience is the adhesive backing will stick to the skin along the edges where the patch was attached. It does come off if you soak in a tub a bit, but at first it is not pleasant.

Good Luck

Hey T., I know your frustrations, My son is diagnosed with ADHD,ODD Depressive disorder, and Borderline Bi-Polar. The doctor has him on Seroquel and Strattera, it seems to be working good with him. Also about the photography thing, my husband does not like to get out, so what would you charge to come to Irving to do a family portrait?

Google for Dr. Sheshagiri Rao. He's a peditrician turned immunologist when his son was diagnosed with ADHD. They have LOTS of biomedical and natural treatment options.

I have heard many parents say that they were happy with Brain Gym, and that it really helped lessen ADHD symptoms. I have never tried it and haven't done any serious research on it, but it may be worth checking out at http://braingym.com/.

I don't think they have any local classes, but I think there is a way to put a group together and they will form a class for you. They also put out books which are available at www.amazon.com. Some people say that the teacher's edition is too hard to follow without additional materials. Again, I'm just reporting what I have heard.

T.,

At PBS.com you can find books to help you work with your child without using medications. I used to take care of twin boys that were diagnosed with ADHD and their mother and I referred to books all the time to help deal with them. Most of the time it was talking to them differently and helping them with their school work in different ways. I hope this helps.

I have a 13 year old son who has Adhd and has been on meds since he was almost 5. This past summer I took him off all meds. I found this web site and ask about any alternatives I could do. Some of the moms told me about S.I.D. (Sensory Integration Disorder). It has a lot of the same symptoms of adhd. I did a lot of research on it. I found a place in Rockwall called Excel Pediatric and took my son there to have an assessment done. It turned out that he had S.I.D. We started physical therapy 2 times a week and WOW he is like a different kid. Now with all that said. At the beginning of the school year we had to put him back on his med (Folcin) but he is on a very low dose and we hope to have him off all meds with in the year. If you would like more info. Let me know. Excel is not a quick fix. But in the 5 months we have been there, there have been great changes. My son’s grades are the best they have been in years and his social skills have improved greatly. We just had a meeting with all his teachers and some said he is like a different kid. He still at times is a lil hyper and impulsive but by know means like he was. I wish you well on your reach.

Hi T.,
I also have 3 children and worked as an elementary teacher w/ a Special Education degree in Garland, at Luna Elem, for 4 years. I now homeschool. It breaks my heart to see so many school children on all these prescription meds. It does help them focus, but it does not get to the root problem. Our diets are so deficient with essential vitamin/minerals/nutrients that children are suffering from a lack of focus, attention, etc... I have found that recommending an all natural glyconutrient to ADD/ADHD parents, have been their best bet. Consider taking glyconutrients for your precious child. Call or email me for more information.
Blessings and Hope,

Dear T.,

I have been posting questions and doing lots of research lately on ADHD. My daughter is 3 and it is suspected that she may have it. We are not planning to pursue an official diagnosis at this time. You should check out some of these websites though-- the last two are actual clinics here in the DFW area-- the Block Center is in Hurst and the ADD Health & Wellness Center is in Plano/Addison area. I hope this helps!
