What size nipple are you using?
Perhaps you need to go up a size (size 2 might be appropriate now). We have loved the Dr brown's bottles (except I feel like I'm washing them all the time!
I have recently gone back to work. I am still breastfeeding and pumping at work. My daughter is having a little problem taking the bottle. She does take it, but it takes about 25 minutes to get five ounces down. It only takes her ten minutes or so to nurse. I am wondering what kind of bottle is most like the breast to help her take it better. We are currently using Dr. Browns! Thanks
We used the same bottles and just switched the nipple size. The Breastflow bottles gave her gas and the Avent's were hard to latch on! Thanks again!

When I switched to bottle, my son took the Avent bottles best. I think the wide top is similar to the breast. Also, does someone else feed her the bottle? Sometimes breastfed babies don't like to take a bottle from mom but do fine with someone else. Good luck.
Hi, Ashley. My baby girl was the same way. I had a terrible time getting her to take a bottle. I tried everything and I mean everything and every bottle they make. What finally worked for us (and I know it soulds silly) was using the little latex nipples that are for preemies. They are a lot smaller than the regular ones and she took it first try with no problems. After using it for a while, we switched to a regular latex nipple. After spending a lot of money on all of those nifty bottles and nipples, even the one that looks like a breast with no luck, she ended up using the cheapest one! Hope this helps!

I would use a bottle that says promotes breast feeding. She might be having nipple confusion. Playtex has bottles that are made to promote breast feeding. If you would like I have some that I will never use and has never been used. To contact me my e-mail address is ____@____.com make the subject about bottles. Hope I can help.
Try the Avent Natural shape bottle
I used the Avent bottle. It seemed the most like the breast and the that my guy liked the best. They have 4 different nipples for different ages so make sure you check which nipple you are using. If you are using a newborn one on the Dr Browns you may want to try the next level up.It may justy be that it is too slow for your daughter. Also the narrow Dr Browns and other bottles seemed to be the problem with my son when we were testing different bottles.
i used i think it was called, playtex natural latch nipple. we used it while i was breastfeeding, and also afterward and no problems. good luck.
With my youngest I had to use the Playtex nurser with the natural shape nipples. It is the only kind she would take. We tried all the other major brands. Even so it always took her longer to take a bottle than nurse I'm not sure why, and she would only take just enough to cut the edge off her hunger. I think its just harder to suck out. You might want to switch to a nipple with a little faster flow too. =)

Hi Ashley -
I agree with Holly. We used Avent bottles and loved them, but they do come with the "newborn" nipple that is only appropriate for a newborn! When our first daughter was born, we didn't know when/how often to move up to the next nipple flow; now Avent does a much better job of labeling the nipple packages by month so you know which one they need. I am sure Dr. Brown's does the same. That may be the issue!
Good luck
Nancy
Ashley,
You've got a lot of great suggestions, but I thought I'd throw another one your way.
I also have a 4 month old daughter who doesn't like bottles, and believe me I've tried them all! I would suggest the Breastbottle Nurser, (its shape is quite similar to a breast). I found mine at: http://www.onestepahead.com/product/85207/686/117.html This works well for my daughter because the nipple is much larger and shaped like an actual breast.
My sister's daughter, (who also had similar issues) likes the Breastflow Bottle by The First Years which can be found at: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=244956...
Ultimately, as you can see, it simply depends on the baby.
I wish you much luck in finding what works for your little one!

We used Avent bottles when I stopped nursing. He went right to it with no problems!
Good Luck!
Hi Ashley,
We, too, used Dr. Brown's bottles with our little guy ... we love them and think they are the best bottles out there! We started experiencing the same issue with it taking him forever to finish a bottle once he hit a certain age -- he was drinking constantly, but it just took him a long time to get down a bottle.
We had forgotten from our earlier shopping ventures that Dr. Brown's makes different sized nipples for different ages. I think they come in newborn, 3-6 months, and 6 months + ... if I remember correctly.
The bottles come with a newborn nipple, and we had not moved him up to the next nipple size yet. Once we moved him each time he hit a different milestone within the sizing, he did great! He was sucking down the bottles in no time (and with no gas like with other bottle brands)!
I'd recommend trying the nipple size thing ... hope that helps! Good luck!
i also pump we use evenflo elan and my 8 wk old switches back and forth fine
I also had the same problem with my son. He also got to much air and got gas. Well then I found a bottle called Avent Naturally the nipple is shapped like the breast and it is well known to prevent gas. It worked wonders for me.
Hi Ashley,
Medela makes bottles specifically to be used with breastmilk.
You may purchase them at Target. They also fit the medela breast pump, if you happen to be using one of those.
The nipples are shaped much like a natural nipple as it is shaped by the baby's mouth when nursing. It has an easy flow for the breast milk.
My nine month old did great with the Medela bottles, and there isn't any nipple confusion to be concerned about.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

HI, WE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OURS.. WE USE AVENT BOTTLES... THEY ARE MUCH LIKE THE BREAST AND PLUS ALMOST NO AIR GETS TO HIS TUMMY.. WE LOVE THEM YOU CAN JUST BUY 1 AND TRY IT.....
My son is 6 months old. I was breast feeding up until about 1 month ago. The only bottle that really worked for him was the playtex nurser, with the drop ins. Since your daughter is older than 3 months you may want to try a medium, or fast flow nipple. When i would go back and forth from breast to bottle I'd have the same problem, with it taking a very long time for him to feed on the bottle. He wasn't getting enough food fast enough and it was tiring him out. When I switched to the fast flow nipple it made a huge differance. Good luck!
We went thru the same thing with my son (now 3) when I went back to work and my husband stayed home with him. We used the playtex bottle with the round nipple and my husband said he would take the milk better if it was cold rather than warm. I guess then it wasn't like breastmilk that tasted funny but some thing entirely different. I could never get him to take a bottle from me but he ended up liking it from my husband. My work was flexable and let him come in during my lunch break to feed and that seemed to help as well. Good luck and stick with it it pays off.
I used Avent with my son. I never was successful with nursing, but i had friends that were and they used avent as well. all of our sons loved them.
Dear Ashley,
About the bottle my daughter was 10 weeks early and we had to get her use to sucking a pacifier and we use the soothie bottles they are great...also my sister in law has a 5 month who is still breastfed and she works full time and the only bottle he will take is the soothie bottles try them hopefully they will work
My daughter was the same way -- still is (she'll be 4 months on Tuesday). I've been at work for 2 months now. She likes the Avent bottles the best. We also use the skinny Vent Aire ones but the ones I have only hold 6 oz. She hated the Playtex nurser bottles.
Anyway my daughter would nurse for 10 minutes but take 30 minutes (at least) for a bottle. Now she takes that long to nurse sometimes. Now that she's so wiggly and cutting two teeth, it's taking much longer!!!
Good luck!

I breastfed my daughter, and I had so much trouble getting her to take a bottle until I tried Playtex Naturals. She took right to it, and I had no more problems. Hope this helps.
My daughter would only take the Playtex Nurser system. She preferred the laytex slow flow nipple that was the "natural latch". They are softer than most nipples.. GOOD LUCK!
both my kids bf and took a bottle we used evenflo venaire, they have skiny ones that are the same size as normal bottles and they have the wide mouth bottles wehre the nipples are wider like the breast we used both but the wide ones worked best for us.
