Seeking Child Care - Orlando,FL

I have a 2 year old son and I have been having the worst luck with child care. I was home with my son for 16 months and then I decided to go back to work full time. I tried a home daycare first and it was not a good experience (and that is putting it mildly) so I moved him to a day care and it was great in the beginning but as he moved up to the next class it went down hill. I moved him to a new school last month and I am not happy with it either. This is crazy. Isn't there any good childcare in Orlando? I know there must be. I would love to find a nice home daycare with just a few other kids so that my son can interact but be in a smaller, more hands on attentive environment. But, after my first experience I am extremely scared of trying that route again. I don’t know any other mom’s with kids my son’s age to guide me in this mission!

I know, like every other mom, I expect a certain level of care for my son… especially for the price I am paying! And I am just not finding what I am looking for. My son does not talk yet. He does everything else in the world but just doesn’t talk. He is getting ready to start speech therapy through the Phillip’s Family Care Center (development center) and I think that a smaller environment would be ideal so that he is not constantly competing with 8 other kids for one teacher’s attention. I think he gets left out a lot because he can’t talk yet. (Einstein didn’t talk until he was 4 – this is what I keep telling myself )

Anyway, sorry to ramble on… If anyone can recommend a great at home daycare or a great daycare center that might have an opening I would be greatly appreciative… or if you have had a bad experience somewhere and want to share that too that might help keep me from going somewhere worse. I would be ever so grateful! Thanks so much!

Hi C., I am a stay at home mom of 2 beautiful children. Our daughter is 2 1/2 yrs. old and our son is 13 mos. I take care of a 14 mo. old as well. I have plenty of experience with children of all ages having babysat since I was 13 yrs. old and now having 2 of my own. Our home is smoke and pet free. We take daily trips to the playground (weather permitting) and I have plenty of educational tools. We have themed weeks where we learn letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. Please feel free to email me if you have any further questions, ____@____.com a great weekend=-)
Thanks, N.

Hello C.,

Not sure if this will help, but since your son is getting ready to start speech therapy, I thought I'd weigh in. My son has been in the developmental program as well, and since he just turned three, he qualified for the state-run developmental pre-school program. When will your son turn three? It is absolutley the best thing we have ever done. He acts completely different around children that are a bit delayed like he is. Until he turns three, the center should be able to give you recommendations on where to turn. Luckily I live in Waterford Lakes and my son's class is located at Sunrise Elementary, which is an excellent school.

Since he hasn't started the therapy yet, call the center and explain the situation. They will be happy to give you numbers and advice. Maybe some churches near you can provide what you need? Good luck, and if you need any more info feel free to email me at ____@____.com.

Not sure if you are still looking for childcare...but my neighbor (a former nurse) has day-to-day childcare and longer terms........she just called me today to get the word out because she doesn't advertise -- just by word of mouth.....and a few long term clients are moving. So I'm passing the word --
her name is Josephine ###-###-####.......we live at the TWin Rivers Country Club Estates in Oviedo - about 15 min. from Orlando.

Good Afternoon C.,

How are you doing today? I can relate with your childcare experiences so well ~ it's like I wrote it. When our 2nd daughter was little we had some very interesting experiences that I choose never to repeat again. First we tried an in-home provider (several bad experiences), followed by a daycare facility (good in the begining then followed by preventable accidents ~ not good) back to in-home provider. She cared for my daughter for over 2 years until I gave birth to my son. Then I decided to stay home with my children ~ I am 32 yrs old mom. Other than my family, I do care for a little 14 month old girl.

Where are you looking for childcare? What days per week or how many hours per day are you needing care?

In regards to your little one speaking, each child learns differently. My nephew was REAL late speaker, in his family everyone gave him whatever he needed before he asked and his sisters would finish his sentences for him. A friend of our family has a little boy that is over 2 and he only speaks a couple words. My mother-in-law says my husband was a late speaker and an early walker. As she puts it, he had places to go but nothing to say. It will happen.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. My email is ____@____.com or my cell number is ###-###-####.

Take Care,

J.
