What about a warm yellow, almost a dark off-white/straw shade? Not sunny yellow, but more of a muted tone.
I have white walls that I really want to paint but stumped when it comes to color choices. We have a small room to the side when you walk into the front door of our home and I want something warm and inviting but not too bright. Right now the colors in that room are 2 white walls and 2 olive green walls (part of the mini-hallway when you walk in). The grand room has a color on the wall that sometimes looks deep brown or dark purple and even has a hint of green in the right lighting. I really like it and don't plan on changing the color of those walls. Our kitchen is a taupe color and we have simple Americana accents on the limited wall space in the kitchen. This is to give you an idea so you might know what color might blend best. Thanks for your help and ideas!

A pretty gold....lion is the name of our family room paint & I love t!
i would go for a cream color. we went from white to cream and while it was a very slight difference in color it really changed the feeling of the room from cold to warm.
we went a bit crazy when we decided to introduce color, and one day i walked through my hallway and realized my house looked like easter eggs.... pink in one room, green in another, red, yellow.... it was a bit much! so we are going back to more neutral colors now as we repaint the rooms, and trying to coordinate them from room to room so it flows throughout the house.
I'm in the creamy flax voting group.
This a tough question -- everyone's esthetic is different! When we bought our home, it was painted in the most hideous colors ever known to man. The foyer, which went all the way up to the top of the house (we have a colonial) was a golden yellow -- a beautiful color for a Southwestern ranch somewhere in Arizona, I thought. But for a New England colonial home I thought it was weird and out of place. Everyone else loved it, but I hated it and got to the point where I swore I could not live one more day with these yellow walls!! So, I hired someone to paint it -- specifically we chose Benjamin Moore "Ballerina White,' which is this beautiful creamy ivory color. It is perfect for my taste. It makes the whole home seem calm and serene.
So, it is really up to you what you want -- my style for a home is peaceful, calm, serene, zen....so I am drawn to mild neutral colors. I am a big fan of off whites, ivories, and even pale gray or "greige" (gray and beige mixed). If I do a dark, I prefer masculine darks like navy or even a deep violet or plum -- since, to me that is still a "calm" color and not eclectic.
I would try various paint colors and see what appeals to you. Hey, maybe you are a yellow girl, LOL -- I was NOT! Anyway, good luck!
If you want a color instead of a neutral, I'd go with a mustard or golden yellow. Basically, a more saturated "creamy flax" color.
I see yellow and its various shades as the non-neutral neutral. Yellow goes with pretty much anything! And it's so warm and inviting. With your brown/purple and olive, a nice warm gold should look magnificent.
