Seeking Double Stroller Recommendations

Hello Mamas,

Does anyone have recomendations for double strollers? The kids will be 2 years apart. Ideally we're looking for something to use with the toddler and the infant carseat then the same stroller for the toddler and baby when big enough to be out of the carseat. Are the double wides too wide to fit through store doors? If the seats are one behind the other, will the stroller ride be enjoyable for the baby in the back?? So many options... would love your advice! Thanks!

Mine are 19 months apart and I bought the Graco Quattro. It works with the car seat and now without. Plus, it actually fit in my HOnda Civic. My older boy likes to sit in the back now -- but most of the time he would prefer to walk so we use the double stroller less and less (and he's not even three yet). I would recommend it -- and try it out at BuybuyBaby first before you buy!

I love my Graco Quattro. It is big without being too big, has plenty of storage, and easy to maneuver. My baby now sits without the carseat in back and she seems to enjoy the ride. My son will be 4 in 3 weeks and he still rides in the front. Sometimes it's just easier. But he's tall and he still fits. Not so much on the back though. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I really liked my Graco DuoGlider. Being able to secure the infant carrier into the stroller (instead of unstrapping and removing the baby) was my "must have." And it has TONS of storage space. I did not want a side-by-side, after talking to my best friend about her experience (you can get it through the front doors of all places you go...but not necessarily through the aisles!)

In regard to the rider in the back...the infant carrier will be facing you (so baby will be staring at Mommy!). And the seat is a higher elevation than the front, so when baby grows out of the infant carrier and sits behind, your youngest will be able to see over your eldest's head.

My two are 11 months apart. I was determined to use a single stroller and baby carrier but eventually because it was more convenient to keep baby in the infant carseat when getting around with a car, we got the Baby Trend Sit and Stand plus like another responder which was great for us at the start with the infant carrier capability. I also liked the option to convert to a sit'n'stand thing. But it can feel bulky but then again, it's a double. When the weather was nicer I wanted to be able to go for very lengthy walks (ideally, jogs - who was I kidding ;-/ ) so ended up finding an In-Step double jogger on e-bay. We use both strollers now for different needs. I was trying to be budget conscience at the time so didn't invest in the higher priced strollers. However, I think the MacClaren double umbrella strollers I've seen seem pretty convenient, lightweight, and easy to use. There's no way I'd purchase another double now though, so we're sticking with what we got. I think it's a matter of what you'll be using the stroller for the majority of the time, what your willing to spend, and features you desire most and things you'd put up with. Good luck!

Here's a dialogue between me and a mom seeking the same advice about a year ago. Hope you don't mind, I just copied and pasted my answer. Good Luck!

Hi E.!

I've been doing some research about the Bumble Ride twin stroller and saw on a recent post that you have one and love it! I have a 20 month old son and am expecting baby #2 at the beginning of April. How have you liked the Bumble Ride for your new born and toddler? What are the pros and cons you've found?

We tried to take one for a "test drive" today at Galt toys and baby in Northbrook Court. Their web site said they had one to try, but when we got there it was gone! Very frustrating!

How does it handle on walks? Does it fold up well? Do you think I'd have a chance of getting it into the trunk of a VW Jetta? Thanks, in advance, for any advice you have!

I still LOVE it. I test drove the double strollers at Babies 'R' Us, and there's no comparison. I live near a crushed gravel, forest preserve trail and wanted something that would handle well. For me, air tires were a must, but I didn't want to buy a second stroller for the mall and/or sidewalks. I used it a lot to take walks during the summer with my newborn in her Graco carseat. It's plush and comes with many accessories, so I love that too. My kids are now 25 mo. and 7 mo.

I drive a Ford Focus Hatchback, and it fits, but barely. It is big and heavy, but the lightest of similar strollers in the same class and it does fit through doorways. Sometimes you have to remove the cup holder that hangs off the side though. If I had the money, I'd probably buy a double umbrella stroller too, such as a McLaren or Chicco, but I wanted a stroller that had it all, including holding a car seat, and this one does! I still give it 5/5 stars!
I bought mine at www.peppyparents.com on sale with no shipping or tax. Hope I helped. Good luck!

P.S. I know someone who bought the Baby Jogger double, but I didn't like it nearly as much as my own. ;-)

I forgot to mention that my son is over the 95th percentile for height, and he has plenty of headroom. He hit his head on the canopy of other doubles. That's another reason I bought it.

Greetings! I really like the Maclaren double stroller. It will not accommodate a car seat but, it is designed for birth through toddlers. It is a side by side stroller, each side can hold a child up to 55 lb. The best thing about it is that it is an umbrella stroller so it folds down very small, doesn't weigh a lot, and fits through a standard width doorway. It is also very maneuverable and durable. I have a 7 month old and a 3 yr old (who is big for her age) and they both fit comfortably. I've put the 7 month old in it since he was about 1 month old. I initially looked into one of the strollers that accommodated a car seat but really liked the Maclaren better. Good luck!

I have a Sit N Stand Plus (with 2 full seats and 5 point harness that can be removed later for a sit & stand bench). I do like it, but it's long and not always the easiest to move around. I would love to have a side by side also for other times.

I looked into the Baby Jogger City Mini the other day at the store and really LOVED it. The price tag is not crazy high, but not really cheap either. It's kind of middle of the road at around $400.

Good luck! I am curious to see what everyone suggests.

My oldest 2 children were 22 months apart and I really liked the Graco Duo Glider. You could put the carrier in the front seat or the back seat. It's long, but still pretty light and easy to fold with 1 hand. Hope this helps.

I have read really great reviews all over about the BOB dualie strollers (which is their double), but it's a hefty price tag. I can't speak from experience on this question, though. We're trying to figure out the same situation. I'd hate to have to purchase two, but it seems like a side-by-side is good for some situations, while the others are perfect for other situations. I know the BOB does have an infant car seat adapter, but it only works with certain car seats.
