I'm considering delivering at Chicago's Advocate Illinois Masonic hospital, and would like to know if anyone has worked with their nurse-midwife group. Any referrals would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I just toured IL Masonic recently. The ABC is now down to one room. When you sign up, you might want to call ahead to see who is giving the tour or find out if a midwife who uses the ABC could give the tour. A friend of mine toured a few months ago and had quite a different experience/impression with the staff, facility and understanding of the policies.

I received my prenatal care at Irving & Western location nurse-midwife group. I was really satisfied with their services, they all took their time during my visits to educate me and answer my questions. They were sweet and compassionate. There was three regular midwives that I saw at the center. When it was time for my delivery, the midwife on call was someone who I had never seen during my visits. However the midwife that was on call was great as well.

I just delivered with these ladies 7 weeks ago and it was the most positive experience possible. I also saw the midwives at Irving and Western and consistently saw two of them. I delivered with one I had never met, but she immediately felt like a life-long friend. All of the midwives are so wonderful, it doesn't matter. I chose to go with them because I wanted an advocate more than a medical practitioner. I delivered in the Alternative Birthing Center at Masonic and HIGHLY recommend it to you. It was spacious, relaxing, had a great shower to labor in, and didn't feel like a hospital. You can go and take a tour of it (sign up on Ill. Masonic's website) and get a LOT of questions answered and see Labor and Delivery and the "ABC."
I could not have wished for more compassionate and competent care than my midwives. I will swear by them the rest of my life.
