Seeking Friend And/or Prenatal Yoga Partner

I am pregnant with my first child due December 6th. I really need to exercise, I know. My problem is I am too scared to take walks by myself, and my husband works in Iraq, so I'm alone. I have other pregnant friends, but all live an hour or more away. I'm fairly new to the Plano area and haven't really met anyone besides some neighbors that I'm honestly not too fond of. I have found some free prenatal yoga classes at Destination Maternity and would like to go to those. My next problem is that I have mild social anxiety that I inherited from my dear mother. I know I will be fine once I go the first time. The problem is going by myself that first time. I am hoping there is someone out there that feels the same as me or just wants to go to these free yoga classes as well. I would like to go to the classes located at 5539 LBJ Freeway. I live on Plano Pkwy and Alma. If you can get to my house or are on the way for me to pickup, I would be happy to drive. If you'd like to meet before we go, I would like that too. The classes are Monday, Tuesday from 5:30pm-6:30pm and Wednesday 6pm-7pm. They also have some morning classes, but I know I'd go more often if it's in the evening. I'm not sure how often you should go. Probably just once or twice a week. All of these classes are fine with me. My email is ____@____.com if you are interested.

What can I do next?

I went to the prenatal yoga at meical center of plano too & I loved it. It is very close to you. You can call them or look on their website. i think Monday nites at 6pm in bldg across from hospital at Coit & 15th, less than 10 minutes from your home. I highly reccomend the teacher Linda Maitri Smithisler.

Go there and you can meet some nice women.

hey, i've been to the classes there when i was pregnant with DS 3 yrs ago. when you get there, you will see there are other pregnant moms just like you. the instructor goes around asking your name and how far along you are. so, you will get to meet other moms who are due the same time as you.

Hi S.. Although I can't be of any help as a yoga partner, I wanted to make another recommendation: find a church with a Moms Connection group. That will help you get to know other moms and expectant moms, and can give you support and companionship especially while your husband is deployed. I think our church's Moms Connection meets in the mornings, so you would still be able to do yoga in the afternoons/evenings. Check out www.chaseoaks.org or google for other groups that meet in Plano. I hope this helps. Blessings on you.

I'm not pregnant, but when I was prenatal yoga was offered at Medical Center of Plano for about $10 a class. I'm not sure of the days, but it is a small class that is closer to your home. Also, Peppermint Boutique in Richardson was offering prenatal yoga for $15 a class. You might check them out. Both were small classes where you could get to know the other moms-to-be. Best wishes!

I also want to recommend that after the baby is born, join a group of moms with babies the same age as yours. I went to the MOM (Method Of Mothering) class at Medical Center of Plano after my daughter was born. You don't have to have given birth at that hospital to go to the class. We met once a week at the hospital. The nurse who facilitated brought in speakers for each session and we had time to talk among ourselves as well. Our group still meets three years later and it is the BEST thing I did for myself.
