I am seeking recommendation on a good K-8 school in FWISD. We have two kids (5 &7) in small private school but economy has forced us to explore other options. They are both pretty good students with no learning disabilities. Thank you and I will visit each school that is recommened.

What can I do next?

Applied Learning Academy is supposed to be really good. My child went to Benbrook Elementary - was great - now for middle school we homeschool.

Hi M.
Try the special interest programs schools with the FWISD. My kids go to Como Montessori. It's not private but you do have to apply to get in. The one thing though because they like to keep smalls classrooms you to get them in starting kindergarten. That's easier. Because it's a special interest school it doesn't matter where you live as long as you're in the FWISD district. The teachers are great. They have like 19-20 kids per class. It's independant study so the kids really love it. It's not structured like normal classrooms but they learn, in my opinion, alot more. Not including kindergarten, 7th and 8th, a teacher has 3 grades to a classroom. 1st thru 3rd, 4th thru 6th. So the younger kids learn from the older kids and so they eventually start learning above their grade level which, again in my opinion, is great. I hope this helps! Good luck!

I don't know of any school in FWISD but if Fort Worth is like Arlington, which I think it is, you don't necessarily get to pick the school they attend. The ISD usually 'zones' each of the schools and depending on where you live you attend a certain school. With that said, there are usually options and you can transfer your child to another school in the district for a small fee. However, your children will most likely have to start at the school they are zoned for and you can then look into transfering them depending on if the school of your choice has available openings and can accept transfer children. This is usually determined by teacher to child ratio. If the state determined teacher to child ratio is met or exceeded, they cannot accept more children via transfer. I would call your school district and find out what your options are. Good luck to you! We went through all of this in Arlington.

Tanglewood Elementary School, in southwest Fort Worth off Hulen and Bellaire Dr. South is the best! If you can get in, enrollment is tight.

No ideas for FW but Euless has a great charter school called Treetops School. They do the enrollment by lottery, and students from all over can attend.

I suggest that you test your children for being Gifted and Talented. If they qualify, then you can choose from Magnet programs. I know the one at Luella Merret is excellent. There may even be a waiting list.

Also, if the school for which you are zoned has not met certain TAKS criteria, then you request a transfer.
