Hello - Does anyone know of storytelling groups or free play groups for toddlers that are open to the public in the greater Sacramento area? I know that my local public library offers storytelling sessions for toddlers once a week. Any other ideas?

Hi C.,
The following ideas aren't necessarily storytelling groups, but they are fun, nonetheless. I take my 22 month old to a free dance class at McKinley Park (located in the Clunie Clubhouse) every Monday at 10:45am. Its fun and free, however the moms that run it just lost their grant and they are asking for small donations to help provide a healthy snack following class. The other fun group we go to is a free sing-along class, also located in Clunie Clubhouse on Thursdays at 11:30am. In addition, McKinley Library has a story time on Tuesdays at 11:00am for toddlers. I hope this helps and maybe we'll see you there! :)

Borders does story telling on Thursdays and Saturdays depending on the location. Hope that helps
Almost every library has at least one, sometimes two, storytimes a week. Their websites give the details. Borders @ Howe and Fair Oaks has storytime Tuesdays at 10:30. The McKinley Park Library has a music/storytime Mondays at 10:45, this used to be at Pipeworks. This is separate than the library's scheduled storytime.
Have fun!
Mother's Support Network has an evening play group on the first and third Thursdays of each month 6pm to 7:30pm, as well as a couple of day groups. They're on El Camino their number is listed. I have attended several groups (sign class, new moms group, breastfeeding support group, music group...) and my son and I have made wonderful friends. If you or anyone has any questions, feel free to send them to me. Good luck. K.

Save Mart has a once a month on thursdays in the produce, where the kids can learn about vegetables and fruit in a healthy way. You can call your local store for details.
They also color a picture and get a free fruit or veggie for participation.

I don't have any other ideas, but wanted to encourage you to go to one or more library story times. We go to the Sat morning one at MLK library - 10:30. Even though we don't live near there, the children's librarian is fabulous with the kids, so I make the effort to get there. She does stories and crafts.
there is an excelent school readiness program put on by first 5 and the folsom/cordova school district that is every day of the week (week days only) at different locations. i have tried each and i like thursday the best. it is less crowded and the location is nice. it is free for ages 0-5 and they do craft projects and learning activities and have a snack and story. they run 2 hours. you could go every day if you wanted but the activities are the same for the whole week. they also have special events like free day at fairytale town and family night with dinner and a movie. we used to pay for a play group and then we found this and my son loves it. anyway, here is the info for the thursday class:
shoot, i cant find the address but it is at 9:30am and it is on investment cir. in rancho cordova right off folsom blv near coloma rd. it is the building at the center of the circle, the something everheart building and there is an a frame sign by the front door that says free playgroup. it isn't hard to find. i know the monday class is at the rancho cordova community center on coloma rd. at mcgreggor dr at 9:30am if you think that one would be easier to find or you could probably call first 5 california to get info. i hope to see you there.

I am a member of an awsome mom's group in Elk Grove. I found it through www.meetup.com. Just search for moms groups in your area and you will be amazed at how many groups there are! It is endless! You can find a group for anything here!
Good luck!

i was a member of the moms club in carmichael. it costs $20/year and my kids had playdates with the same playgroup every week. we also had monthly park meetings with the whole club and holiday parties. even tho my kids are now too old for the club, many of us from our old playgroup still get together and the kids are really close since they grew up together. i'm also still good friends with many of the moms. there's a moms club in sacto, fair oaks, elk grove, natomas and the roseville area. i think if you go to momsclub.org you'll find a moms club in your area. good luck - getting out and meeting people was such a lifesaver when i was a new mom.
Check you local book store. Sometimes on certain days they have a story telling session. I know the Barnes and Noble by my moms in SoCal has one in the afternoons on Tuesdays.
I know in Folsom, the Borders has storytime every Tuesday morning at 10:30. Good Luck!
