My husband and I just bought a house in Woodland Hills and we will move to Woodland Hills in October 2008 with our two and half year old daughter. Since I am so new to this area, I am seeking any information and suggestion about preschools, activites, classes, parks and Mommy and Me groups for toddlers in Woodland Hills and surronding areas.

We've done Gymboree classes and have become members of several meet up groups via www.meetup.com as well. I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter, too, so if you want to meet sometime once you're settled in here in Woodland Hills let me know! Welcome!

Welcome to Woodland Hills! My first son went to the Woodland Hills Community Church Nursery School on Canoga and Dumetz. He loved it and we loved it. Lots of parent involvement and I met some great moms through it. My younger son, also 2 1/2 yrs old, just started a few months back at the Montessori of Calabasas. He has learned so much, I'm amazed. He now cleans up at home after himself, has become much more polite, and has learned other skills. Parent involvement in this school is very limited. Only reason I put him in a different school is the first one has limited hours. But I've had really good experiences with both.

I echo Marisa G. My son currently attends Woodland Hills Private School for Pre-K and LOVES it. He transitioned there for summer camp this year and I did an extensive review of the schools in the area before selecting this one. I highly recommend you include it in your list of schools to visit when you choose a preschool! In my opinion, it stood out amongst the competition, but you have to find the school that is the right fit for your child. In my case, it seems to be the perfect match. I also love how involved the Parent Association is on campus, even at the preschool level.

Also, we've been going to The Little Gym of Calabasas (actually in Woodland Hills on Ventura) and are very happy with it. They have gymnastics, karate gymnastics, date nights, etc. It's definitely worth checking out.

Welcome to the neighborhood!

We attend the Lil Gym of Calabasas (actually in Woodland Hills) and have really enjoyed the classes and the other moms/kids we have met there.

Great Park: Brandon's Village in Calabasas (off Las Virgenes Road). Thepark was designed as a Handicap park so they have a whole section that is for young children an low to the ground.

Welcome!

Hi W.,
I recommend Woodland Hills Private School, ###-###-#### & ###-###-#### they have two campuses in W.H. one is the farm school which is very rural (animals and the like), the other is a transformed elementary school, very small and cute. My daughter actually attended both. In fact my sons (who is 25 now) preK teacher Pam still teaches there... talk about longevity! My three kids attended the school and it was GREAT! They all might have attended a while back, but I have other friends there now who love it. Also, Hughes Adult School ###-###-#### has super cheap and have a really wonderful Parenting classes. They are actually mommy and me classes with a bit more. My youngest daughter is now 11, and some of her best friends (and mine too) were formed there, of which we all still get together. Anyhow, good luck with the move. I really love Woodland Hills and I hope you do too.

Welcome!
M.

Both of my kids went to Boulevard School in Woodland hills and had good experiences there. (they are in high school now!) It is on Victory Blvd., between Woodlake and Fallbrook. I believe they have Mommy and Me classes, as well as their pre-school classes and they also have Kindergarten. During the summer, they have day camp.
I live right next to Orcutt Horticultural Center in West Hills. It's a great park to wander around in. You enter on Roscoe and it's near Valley Circle Blvd. Lots of woods and trails. Right now it is undergoing many improvements so there are a lot of areas that are off limits. There is also a park in West Hills that my kids call the hill park. It's a steep climb to the top, but once you're up there you can enjoy the view of the valley, picnic tables, swings, slides and sand. The big hill is fun to roll down. One drawback- no bathrooms (last time I was there). I believe the real name is Chase Park. If you take Fallbrook all the way up, make the second right, after you pass Roscoe Blvd., after about 3 blocks you will see it on your left. Knapp Ranch Park in Woodland Hills is also nice. The bottom level has bathrooms, swings, slides, sand, tennis courts and T-Ball/Coach Pitch playing fields. The middle and upper levels have baseball fields for older kids. A lot of the park area is shaded with trees. This park is located just west of Valley Circle Blvd. between Victory and Vanowen, on a street called Kittridge.
Have fun exploring!

Hi W.,
Check out the Boulevard School (23022 Victory Blvd, Woodland Hills ###-###-#### )- it is a preschool and it might also be elementary. It is wonderful. My nieces went there for preschool and loved it. I sent my son to Kol Tikvah Temple preschool on Ventura Blvd near Winnetka - he loved it there (Boulevard was a little too far for me to drive in the morning). There is a Playsource gym at the corner of Ventura and Topanaga. A lot of mothers meet there for playdates.

We like to go to Balboa Park (Balboa Blvd between Victory and Burbank) - it's not too far from Woodland hills - they have ducks, swings, walking trails, a big pond... Encino park on Ventura near Balboa is nice too.

Good luck.

Hi W.,

I live in Woodland Hills and have a 6 month old son and an 18 yr old daughter who graduated from El Camino High School this year.

I know a little about the public schools here and preschools as well. My best friend has a one yr. Old and we were looking at a Montessori in Agoura. We have a list from our mommy and me class with Jackie Rosenberg. I would suggest her class of same birth month babies, but I know she is mostly made her classes of first time moms. You could always call and see what she says.

I'll try to email you soon with some more details. Untill then welcome to the hood! This is a wonderful place to live and raise children.

p.s. Dr. Burstien... awsome pediatrcian and she is on Ventura blv. Between shoup and sale.

Stephannie
