Seeking Input on Purchase of a Double Jogging Stroller

I am looking to purchase a double jogging stroller for my 2 1/2 yr old (35 inches and 31 lbs)and 2 month old within the next few weeks. I would love to hear what double jogging stollers other moms have liked or would warn against. I'm not a serious jogger- would be using it for daily walking and don't need all the bells and whistles, but something of decent quality. What features and have you mothers found most important? Which brands should be avoided?

Hi--
I bought the In Step double stroller. I love it!! My kids are 4/12 and 14 months and they still fit in it great. It has a swivel wheel on the front--This is a must when pushing 2 kids. It can be locked into place if needed. The seats recline individually and the covers come off so they can be machine washed. The tires are not plastic which is great. the storage baskets on the back are a little small, but they work fine. the best thing is it isn't too expensive. I got mine on amazon for 159.00 with free shipping. I have seen them on Craigs list since then for around 100. I love mine for the price and what I actually use it for is mainly for walks around the neighborhood.

I have a schwinn that I love. It is both a jogger and a bike trailer. It is a bit costly because if you get the cheaper schwinn, you get a cheaper product.

Just take a minute to call your dr. before you use it for jogging. Mine had me wait till my baby had a little more head control. I used it for walking before that. I think it was about 4 months but my memory is fuzzy.
Have fun.

Hello. I don't have any preference for product names, but I do have some info. for you on a double jogging stroller. My husband and I used to own one (our kids got too big for it), and it came in really handy for the most part.
Negative(s): No cup holders (for us or kids); No swivel wheel on the front tire (made it hard to turn for regular usage--non-jogger); and the size of the stroller itself (would not fit in trunk of regular car--Dodge Intrepid w/large trunk. Works best in mini-van, blazer, truck, large van, etc.); also access for some doors at the Mall (stores/bathrooms) is tight, but can squeeze through (may need 2-people: 1-to hold door open, 1-to push stroller through).
Positive(s): Saves on having to purchase two strollers; easy access to/for both children; great at the Zoo & Carnivals/State Fairs/Amusement Parks (also doubles as a "trailbreaker" if you will, in the same places); as your children get older & one wants to walk, or is w/their grandparents (e.g.), you have extra storage space (the empty seat); these strollers are usually heavy-duty, last a long time, & are easy to clean, therefore, your children will/could use it for many years.
Me: 37-yr old F/T working Mom, married 9yrs (total 13yrs), w/a 9yr old Daughter (10 in Aug.), and a 7yr old Son.

We love Kelty. Also, we ended up just getting a good bike trailer that has a jogging stroler handle. It works for walks or rides. It is a bit bulky but does go in the trunk. It works for the zoo and stuf and has tons a storage for your junk. we just had too many strollers. we have that one and a doble cheap umbrella stroller now.

Sounds like you've received good advice on some good brands--just thought I would throw in a caution. We bought a Dr. Jogger over the internet and the buckles broke after only a few uses. Plus, it doesn't fold down to fit compactly into tight spaces. It takes up the entire back area of our suburban! Anyway, if possible, look for one that folds down so that you can put it in a car. Good luck!

If you want a Double Jogger the BOB is GREAT! I walk/run on a daily basis and the BOB has made running very enjoyable and safe. The safety straps are easy to buckle and they are comforatble. Each kid has his/her own space with seat pockets to store sippy cups, snacks, and toys. There is storage space under the seats as well. I could not survive without the BOB Jogger.

Good luck!

I would check out Craigslist or Ebay for sure. Spending a little more money and getting a top end stroller is money well spent. A better overall experience and better resell when you trade for the next level.

Good luck

Either InStep or Schwinn (same company) has a wonderful double stroller that we have used for the past two years and it still works great. I can't remember the stlye name, but it wasn't anything fancy. You definitely want a swivel front tire. It was about $250 then and we bought it online through Sports Authority (shipping and handling was free, too.) I have used it both for walking and jogging a lot over the past two years and feel it was our best purchase when baby #2 came!
The only complaint I have is that it is really wide and doesn't fit through every set of doors. But, the back tires easily pop off to maneuver through tighter spaces if you want. (I've done that a fair amount and it takes only seconds.) Check the width of storllers as you shop--maybe now, they have made some narrower.
One other suggestion: once you gt it, it is worth it to switch the tire tubes to foam ones--we took our stroller to Disneyland a lot and saw so many of the same or similar strollers with flat tires. NoMorFlats sells these through WalMart and it is completely worth the $15 or so you pay for them. Good luck!

I got my single jogger at a thrift store for $6!!! The only feature I don't like about it is that the front wheel doesn't swivel. I would get a different one but you can't beat that price with a big stick! Good luck getting back in shape. I have a three month old so I know what you're going through. My 4 year old is too big for the joggers anyway or I might think about getting a new one too.

J.,
I don't have any specific brands to recommend - it's been a couple of years since I needed one - however, I would definitely recommend making sure the front wheel turns. I had one that didn't and you had to kind of lift the front to turn a corner. It was awful!!

Good luck!

We bought a bob duallie and it is amazing. The ride is completely smooth. Both seats recline individually and the sun shades retract individually (and cover their entire body). I have seen them on ksl.com used and you can get a pretty good deal.

I love the Mountain Buggy Urban Double. It is expensive but worth every penny. It has great weight distribution so even with kids of different ages/weights it is the easiest stroller ever to push. It fits through standard size doors which a lot of double jog strollers wont. Really it is just AWESOME!!I got it when my second was born and my first was almost 3 and that was a few years ago and we are still using it now that my 3rd is a baby. It is really well made. I use it mostly for walking to town etc... not for serious jogging

Check out www.onestepahead.com for their jog strollers. I had the double for the last 4 years and LOVED it. I just sold it because I only need a single now. I've had the single from the same catalog since March and so far I am loving it as well. It comes in both single and double sizes. It is actually a Babytrend, but it's a special edition made just for One Step Ahead with some extras (rain shield, tire pump etc...). It has a swivel wheel that can be locked and I am really enjoying the easier steering. I can easily steer with one hand. The double sells for $219.95 , plus you can usually find a 15% off coupon code on www.couponcabin.com (I used code "15SAVONE") which brings the price down to about $190. An awesome price for a great quality stroller. I know you can spend $500 on a very fancy stroller, but I personally don't think it's worth it!

Hi J.,
I am not sure if you would like any other attachments (cross-country skiing, biking, etc), but we have a Chariot and LOVE it! It is the only biking stroller we found that you could have an infant in (not to bike yet, but at least we didn't have to buy two biking/jogging strollers) The things I like about it

1.the front wheels are under the stroller m(so it is more compact feeling) and turn (I didn't like the one stationary wheel in front, but I am not a hard-core runner)
2. the rain cover is awesome...we lived in Vancouver for a year and my son was toasty warm and dry during 2 hour walks...I was sopping wet, but...
The cover is also great for walking in the cold.
3. there is plenty of storage space for running errands or carrying toys to the beach, etc.
4. my 3 year old is very comfortable in it and now my 6 month old daughter likes being in it too (she is in the sling attachment)
5. it fits through all "normal" doors if you take it shopping

We really really just like our stroller!

Things that I would maybe like in a different stroller.
1. I think my kids would like to be separated at times (vs. on the bench seat they are on). Some bigger just jogging stollers (like BOB) have pretty much two separate seats each with their own sun shade and they recline separately (but we have not seen that in a biking/jogging one).
2. a self cleaning stroller...ours is pretty gunked up from the kids being in it so often ;)

Hope that helps a bit even if you are not looking for a bike combo maybe some of my likes/dislikes will give you some things to look into.
Good luck!

I have a Phil and Ted with the 2nd seat low in the back. When with oldest out grows the stroller I can just take off the 2nd seat and it's a single stroller. I've gone through over 10 strollers with 4 kids and this is my favorite. I've had it 3 years and it still seems brand new. I love it.

I love using a ride-on board with my single umbrella stroller. Available online and from Target. Manufacturer is Lescal, I think. Worth every penny.
