I was wondering if it is ok to switch formula into a sippy cup. It being cheaper than bottle liners and my daughter also does really well with them.

What can I do next?

Dear A.,

I did it with my daughter and it went very well. At first, I tried putting the formular in her regular sippy cup we used for her juice, she seemed confused. After a few sips, she rejected it so decided to buy another cup that has completely different color. Since then, there was no problem. Now, she can drink from cup without the sippy part.

Good luck and success to you.

It should be just fine.

Our son started sippy cups around 9 months with water during snacktime. He's a pro at it. Unfortunately, if the sippy cup has formula in it he has no interest in it whatsoever. We've tried several times to get him to take his formula from the sippy cup but to no avail, so we are waiting until we switch over to milk before we try again.

I would definately do it if she will take it! One of the biggest challenges is to get babies to give up their bottles, especially the bottles with milk/formula. Babies usually will use cups for juice and water no problem, but for some reason like their milk in the bottle. So if she will easily do this for you, jump on it!!

I started my daughter on a sippy cup at about 8 months. I have friends with horror stories of their toddlers still being on the bottle and not being able to get them to change at 15-24 months. She is now 11 months and hasn't had a bottle in about 2 months! It helps her feel more independent, because she can place it anywhere she wants. So, I say if you can handle picking it up off the floor a lot, go for it!

I used formula in sippy cups for my son. He started drinking from a cup very early. I started him at about 9-10 months. He did just fine with the formula in the sippy cup.

Hey if she'll take it, I'd go for it. You ultimately want them off the bottle. If she shows no problems with switching you are blessed. Really she is getting the same thing, just different way of doing it. Good luck!

If you can get your daughter to switch to a sippy cup with formula now, that is great. You should definitely do it. You normally hear to give babies water in juice in the sippy cup because it is something new and exciting for them, so it will make them more likely to use the cup. Once they are using it, you should use it for everything. I would wean her now from the bottle, while you can! (I wish I were so lucky!)

I started giving all four of my kids sippy cups with formula at around six months of age and they were all off the bottle before they were a year old.

I should think it would be fine to go with a sippy cup as long as your daughter is taking the whole amount of formula that should would normally take with a bottle. Your Pediatrician would probably also approve. Good for you!!

She should be fine with a sippy cup. Like the other poster said, some kids won't take formula or breastmilk from a sippy cup because they don't like change from their usual source. I couldn't get either of my kids to take a bottle at all (I breastfed) but both started with sippy cups around 6 or 7 months. I started with water at meal times then eventually switch to milk after they were 12 mos. Neither would take breastmilk in the cup, either. My son preferred a straw cup (the kind with the permanently attached plastic staw that has a little cover that clicks over it) and used that from the time he was 9 mos, so you might try that, too.

the sooner you switch to the sippy cup the better. it will make it easier to stop the bottle. once they turn one the bottle is only provides them comfort. a lot of moms worry because their child will only drink milk from the bottle so I highly encourage you to switch formula to sippy cup.
