If you go to food allergy and anapylaxis network website, they have a cake recipe. My son's allergist told us about this website.

Hi J.,

My son has many food allergies and at that age he couldn't have eggs either. (Now he can, but no milk products or proteins like beef). Whole Foods makes a vegan cake that is very good. I got him that for his birthday. The other chocolate cakes they mention are also terrific. He's now 4 and I've played around w/many recipes substituting ingredients. Good luck and you've recieved some great advice.

Hi J.!

I am a grandma too! I think I might have the solution to your birthday cake problem. You didn't mention chocolate as one of the things your grandson is allergic to so if he likes chocolate, here is your answer. Please notice that this cake does not have eggs in it but it does have 6 Tablespoons of milk in the frosting. It is called a Crazy Chocolate Cake and it is so easy to make and it tastes wonderful. In fact, if I wasn't on a diet, I would make it right now just thinking about it!

Crazy Chocolate Cake

3 Cups Flour
2 Cups Sugar
6 Tablespoons Cocoa
12 Tablespoons Oil (3/4 Cup)
1 Teaspoon Salt
2 Tablespoons Vinegar
2 Teaspoons Soda
2 Teaspoons Vanilla
2 Cups Water

Bake in ungreased 9 X 13 pan at 350 degrees for 30 minutes

Frosting

1 Box Powdered Sugar
1 Stick Butter or Oleo
6 Tablespoons Milk
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
4 Tablespoons Cocoa

J.,

If you try this cake, I hope you and your grandson both like it. Let me know if you do, ok?

Sincerely,

L. Colley (Nanaw)

Look up the Wacky Chocolate Cake. The recipe seems out there but it is a Great Allergy Free Cake! Whenever I make this cake my mom's neighbors beg her to bring them some. For frosting I use Powdered Sugar, Vanilla and a little water. I know the Pillsbury Vanilla and Strawberry frosting is dairy free. Good Luck!

They are egg free and peanut free as well as have gluten free products. They offer cake mixes and frostings along w/ cookie mixes. I find them in the natural foods or diabetic section of the grocery store. Good luck and many birthday blessings!

Try this one! I know it sounds crazy, but it is really really good and moist!

Tell your dd that she can make frosting with palm shorting powdered sugar and coco, or just sprinkle powdered sugar on top!

http://dessert-recipes.suite101.com/article.cfm/dairy_fre...

Also my dd LOVES coconut icecream. She cant have soy though, so the soy ice cream might be ok for your lo.

Best of luck!

I know you got lots of answers, but I didn't see this mentioned (unless it's on one of the sites). One of moms in a food allergy group I'm in told us about using clear soda (e.g. Sprite) in place of eggs. My daughter is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, so eggs are not a problem, but I tried it anyway when I needed to make a cupcake for my daughter to take to a friend's birthday (since most parents don't read labels and it's not worth the risk). I had run out of eggs so I used a can of Sierra Mist. It turned out okay - a little flatter than what you'd get with eggs, but my daughter couldn't tell the difference.

Try your local health food stores, they sell cake mixes free of all of those allergies. Sprouts is a good one, A healthy Approach (although I think the name changed recently) and Whole Foods are the best ones in my opinion. Also, instead of ice cream check the ingredients of sherbet. You could always do rick crispy treats instead of a cake or sugar cookies (using substitutes of course). Good luck!!

Here are 3 I found for my daughter in Feb:

Sugar Free Applesauce and Banana Cake
8oz (2 cups) whole wheat flour
1oz (1/8 cup) wheat germ
1tsp baking soda
6 medium, ripe bananas - mashed
8 fl oz (1 cup) sugar-free applesauce
2-4 fl oz (1/4 to 1/2 cup) soy milk
Preheat the oven to 325 deg F (160 deg C).
In a bowl, combine the flour, wheat germ and baking soda.
In a separate bowl, combine the applesauce with the mashed bananas and milk.
Pour the applesauce mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
Pour into a greased pan and bake for around 1 1/2 hours. The cake is ready when a sharp knife inserted into the middle comes out clean.

Wheat Free Basic Cake (also gluten free and egg free)
4oz (1 cup) sorghum flour
2oz (1/2 cup) potato starch
1oz (1/4 cup) tapioca starch
8oz (1 cup) sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp fresh orange juice
5 tbsp oil
1tsp vanilla extract
8 fl oz (1 cup) water
Preheat the oven to 350 deg F (180 deg C).
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, potato starch, tapioca starch, sugar, baking soda and salt.
In a separate bowl, combine the orange juice, oil, vanilla extract and water.
Mix the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients, stirring well until the mixture is smooth. Grease and flour a 9" cake pan, then pour in the mixture. Bake for around 30 mins, until a sharp knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

Wheat Free Birthday Cake - Blackberry Cake (or Blueberries)
4 fl oz (1/2 cup) milk
4oz (1/2 cup) oil
1 ripe banana, mashed
1 apple, peeled and grated
4oz (1/2 cup) fresh blackberries or blueberries
1 lb (4 cups) rice flour
5oz (1 1/4 cups) tapioca flour
6oz (3/4 cup) sugar
2tsp baking soda
pinch of salt
1 tsp cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 350 deg F (180 deg C).
Mix all the wet ingredients in one bowl and the dry ingredients in another. Combine the contents of the two bowls. Grease and flour a 7" cake pan, then spoon the mixture into the pan. Bake for 20-30 mins, until a sharp knife inserted into the middle comes out clean.

Sugar Free Frosting with Yogurt and Pineapple
8oz (1 cup) natural organic yogurt
2oz (1/4 cup) crushed pineapple
First, you need to drain both the pineapple and the yogurt.
Draining yogurt takes some time - so you need to start the day before you need the frosting. Once the yogurt is drained, it has quite a firm texture - making it ideal for the job in hand!
To drain yogurt...
Place 4 layers of cheesecloth in a colander and sit the colander on top of a bowl. Pour the yogurt into the colander. Place the colander and bowl in the refrigerator and leave overnight.
To make your sugar free frosting, simply combine the drained yogurt with the drained pineapple, stirring carefully until mixed.

Tofu Sugar Free Frosting
8oz (1 cup) silken tofu
1/2 tsp pure vanilla essence
3tbsp pure maple syrup
Using a food processor, whip all the ingredients together until nice and creamy.

*NOTE: I used the second recipe because my daughter had tested allergic to wheat, eggs, dairy AND Soy! (and fish and nuts) :-(
I couldn't find Sorghum flour so I used Garbanzo bean flour. And it was great! Also high in Protein. I did use the yogurt icing, just not on Evie's little piece, and it was good, just drain it as long as you can. I got lots of compliments.

You can get all these weird flours from Whole Foods or the like, I used Bob's Red Mill brand. GOOD LUCK!

Hello J.,

you can get cakes from www.reallygreatfoods.com and you can make them w/ egg substitute. I called them once and asked them. their gluten free cakes are awsome. I make those for all our celebrations. I don't have the issues w/ the eggs but had the issue w/ milk, wheat, peanuts, etc. My favorite one is the pinneaple flavored one. I use rice milk and olive oil to make it.

here is their link to their cake mixes:

Good luck! ~C.~

My son is also allergic to dairy, eggs and all nuts and wheat. We are planning on having a Rice Crispie cake using Smart Balance as the butter substitute. I'm gonna frost it with white frosting. Make sure and read the label, you'll be able to find one w/o those ingredients. Careful with the candy toppings, some use egg white. Also, we're doing sno cones instead of ice cream. We tried an "alternative" cake last year, and it was TERRIBLE. I felt bad for everyone who choked it down. The best (and by that, I don't mean delicious, but pretty tasty for what it is) is Cherrybrook brand chocolate cake and white frosting. Target and Sprouts both sell them. Also, there is a product called Egg Replacer or substitue. It's in a box and it's powdered. You just add warm water to it. It only acts as a binder, you can't make scrambled eggs. We use it with regular food that the rest of the family can eat and we can't tell the difference.

Good luck - I know how hard it is to have a child with food allergies. We certainly go through our fair share of Benadryl and an Epipen is also always within reach.

J., our first child was allergic to the same things and soy as well. It was tough until he outgrew some of them.

As far as cake goes, you can substitute yogurt, buttermilk or applesauce for the eggs. Applesauce doesn't give near the same result. For some reason he could do yogurt, but not milk.

If the eggs are thoroughly mixed into the batter and the batter is baked until thoroughly done it did not affect him either.

Most basic recipe books give substitution listings .

Definitely have him tested yearly so you will know when he outgrows these allergies. Unfortunately, most peanut allergies are not outgrown.

Try Cherrybrook Kitchens mixes. They taste pretty good and are free of all those allergens as far as I know, although you'll want to double check the label.

My daughter is also allergic to dairy and eggs but per our allergist she can have b-day cake b/c the egg/dairy used in it is processed so much it doesn't matter. She can't have cows milk or a non-processed egg (like a whole egg). I'm getting her first b-day cake at sams b/c they make a non-dairy whipped topping. You may want to have your daughter ask the allergist and see if your grandson can eat it.

Chocolate cupcakes (can probably be made into a cake): 1 Devil's food cake mix, 1 15 oz can of pumpkin, water that it says on mix. Do not add oil or egg that mix says. It's yummy. I've tried other recipes from scratch and nothing turns out w/out the egg, but this. There are many canned frostings that my son can have, just tell her to look for no milk.

I have a child in my day care and allegic to the same things but not milk. I would use what milk he uses and applesauce in place of eggs. I have been making pancakes with the applesauce for while and they taste great. Years ago women were concerned about fat in food so we used applesauce in place of eggs. It probably does not work on all recipes but try it and see is all I can say.

I have a son with TONS of allergies also.I noticed that this was mentioned before, but becuase we love it so much, I had to put it on here one more time. For cakes and cookies, we LOVE cherrybrook farms. I can find it at my local Target stores. You can also find it on line at http://www.cherrybrookkitchen.com It is awesome! It is all premeasured just like a normal cake mix, and gives you the directions for your particular alleries. AND it tastes good too!!! They even have frosting. I noticed that some one mentioned that they are going to do a rice crispy cake. That is a good idea, but here's a friendly tip; make sure you use real marshmellows and do NOT cheat with marshmellow fluff as it is made with egg whites. (I almost made that mistake once, but caught it in time)

Good luck, and have fun!!

These are actually weight watchers recipes:

Take any box cake mix and add a diet coke and nothing else. Bake according to box directions. Use a diet sprite for light colored cakes. Best served from the pan you bake it in, tends to fall apart.

Any box angel food cake mix and add only a can of crushed pineapple, bake according to box.

Same angel food cake mix with a can of cherry pie filling or any flavor pie filling. Do not add anything else, mix and bake according to the box.
