Hi,
My husband and I have the chance to travel to Thailand for a vacation in the fall. My husband is worried because our baby will only be a year and a half and he wonders if it is safe/wise to visit Thailand with a baby this age. Has anyone ever done this, and if so, where did you stay? Hotel advice also would be so helpful.
Thank you so much!
J.

Hi,

My husband and I went to Thailand as our last vacation before having our first child 2 years ago, and we had a blast. We went to Bangkok and Phuket. I would recommend against going to Bangkok with your chiled unless you plan on just staying at a very nice resort as it is a very busy and a rather aggressive city, but Phuket was very beautiful and peaceful. We were quite surprised to find how kid friendly the resorts were and at how many people had brought their young children to this particular resort we stayed at in Phuket..... The fruits were amazing and if you love massage, you can get one for very cheap... The flight was VERY long, and you might want to check with your Pediatrician regarding any particular vaccines your child may need prior to going, but we did see many families who seemed to be enjoying themselves with their babies at the pool where we stayed at and it was a very reasonably priced and a clean hotel. you can check it out at: www.katathani.com

Hope this helps!

Very safe. Wonderful place to visit. The people are the kindest in the world. Traveled with my young children several years ago. Food is amazing. You want to stay near the Chao Prai River(sp?). I have stayed at the Sheraton (Bouganvilla) several times. Let me know if you need more info.

Ha! What a funny coincidence that you are asking this. I asked "How old must infants be to live abroad?" on May 9 because my husband and I may have a chance to live in Thailand right after the baby is born! I received a number of excellent responses (including one from Julia N.--many thanks!) so dig up my post by title if you want to read them. Good luck!

I was filming in Thailand in 1988 with a one month old
and had no problems. With a toddler you will only have
a problem keeping her entertained on the plane. Bring
lots of small toys and things to do like clay, finger
puppets, coloring, portable dvd etc. The hotels are
great, lots of wonderful baby sitters. I was at the
Regent (ranked number 2 in the world at that time,
and the Orient, ranking number 1) because production paid for it, but honestly the hotel standard in Thailand is the best in the world. You can always keep a flight schedule between
Thailand and Singapore in case of medical emergency but
I wouldn't worry. Just relax and enjoy!
