Hi M.,
Dyslexia runs in my family... my parents were determined that I not be labeled in school unless it became absolutely necessary, but it has always been understood that I have it. Until I was much older, I never needed a different academic program and by that time we just kind of stumbled along until I figured things out. The one thing I would advise though, is that you look into the emotional and chemical effects of dyslexia. I always felt like a bit of a baby, because I would get very emotional when faced with new (usually technical like math or science) ideas. I learned in College that there is a chemical change in the brain when dyslexics are creating new neural pathways that has a tendency to also cause this enhanced emotion... who knew? If I could change one thing it would be to have know this from the beginning... I think it would have made me much more patient with myself. Good luck!
