J.S.
C.,
I had very similar situation. Although mine occured 8 YEARS after my child was born! I started having a greenish discharge from the left nipple. Sometimes it was spontaneous and i would find it on my bras. The docs at the time took smears of it, biopsies, you name it. The tests were always inconclusive. Mammograms every 3months and so on. After 9 months of all this I was referred to a surgeon, because they had been watch a milk duct that was "lighting" up on the mammograms. I guess the next mamogram showed 2 ducts lighting up. The surgeon told me he was 98% sure it was nothing serious, but nonetheless, recommened surgery. I had 4 milk ducts removed during that surgery, one contained a lump that was oozing this green discharge and they assumed it must have traveled into the other ducts. They said it wouldn't come back and the likelihood of it going to the other side, was very slim.
Well, less than a year later, there I was again, this stuff oozing from the RIGHT side now. I skipped the other guys and went right to the surgeon and had him take a biopsy. This time, he called me back and said it showed some "A-Typical" cells and he was recomending surgery the following week. He took all the ducts in the right breast this time as a precaution. The pathology showed these cells as well, and from my understanding, if left untreated could have developed into cancer. I am happy to say now, that I am green discharge free! It's been 7 yrs now. I still get diagnostic mamorgram every year to play it safe.
I would see your doc about it right away. You could have an infection since it's so close to your nursing and with the warmth of course. Better safe than sorry.
Good Luck,
J.
