Seeking Opinions on Reasonably Priced Double Strollers

All suggestions from any experienced mommy would be greatly appreciated! I am looking for a double long or deep stroller--not the wide ones. I'm not looking to spend an amount equivalent to a mortgage down payment either. :) I've checked out a few websites but not all of the sellers have specific descriptions of the features to help me make my decision. For example: How much storage space does it have? Can it accommodate both an infant and a toddler? How easy is it to assemble? I may be missing a few other important features to look for, too. Thanks for any helpful suggestions!

I absolutely love the Baby Trend sit and stand double stroller. Very reasonably priced. I got it for $89 online at Walmart. Don't buy the higher priced ones, there is no difference other than color. It can also accomodate an infant carrier w/ an attachement that hooks on the front that comes with it. I also have a McLearan Side by side and I HATE it. The Baby Tend is pretty light for a double, folds down w/ one hand. LOVE IT!!
Oh, I have a 3 1/2 yr old and 16 mo old.

My kids are 2-1/2 years apart, and we got the Baby Trend Sit and Stand--the model sold by One Step Ahead with the full seat in front for the younger one and the bench seat/standing platform in back for the older one. This worked well for us because my older child didn't want to be in a stroller much. This gives him a place to rest if he gets worn out, but I'm not stuck lugging around a full double stroller with him walking beside me. It's also cheaper than most double strollers! That said, we don't use it all that much because now my big boy is 3-1/2 and REALLY doesn't want to be in the stroller. So I put my baby girl in the single stroller and my son walks beside us.

My advice is to wait as long as you can--until you really need the double stroller (maybe you already do, but at the beginning I mostly wore my baby), and then you may have a better sense of what you're looking for.

Good luck!

As a mom of 2 almost 3 young kids, I have owned many strollers. I had an eddie bauer single, a graco duoglider, and now an evenflo double stroller that I picked up at walmart for like 90 bucks. The eddie bauer fell apart, the graco was so heavy and would not turn with two kids in it so I decided to try the evenflo and I love it. First off it was way cheaper, folds up flatter, has plenty of storage, and I really have no complaints, I put it together myself in about a half hour. Good luck, You should check out evenflo strollers, I think they beat out all the other guys. Happy shopping!

My younger 2 are 15 months apart and I used the Graco DuoGlider. It's heavy like other's said but it's sturdy, has a lot of room for the kids and it moves easy. I got mine used. With my older 2 that were 24 months apart I used the Baby Trend Sit and Stand. It's a tandem stroller with a spot on the back for the older child to sit or stand and the front can have an infant seat. They have upgraded their model so that now the back can have a normal seat as well and it's cheaper then other double strollers.

One Step Ahead (you can find it on the web) has a great one--it's their brand, for older kids to ride and stand, use the car seat or not for the little one. I always thought it was reasonably priced and it would be my choice if we had another one. Good luck and congrats!!!

I have four kids and although my boys are all taller than me now I can remember those days since they were very close together. (My youngest is 13, a girl:)) Some moms don't like to hear this but the absolute best place to buy baby items is either a yard sale or a thrift shop. You have to be picky and sometimes it takes some time to look but I can't tell you how many Eddie Bauer strollers, in nice shape, we've seen at yard sales for 20 bucks. If you want all the new bells and whistles, this won't work for you, but thought I'd mention it.

There are obviously plenty of recommendations here, but another source of advice and possible deals is the Yahoo Group "StrollerSWAP". If you're not familiar with Yahoo Groups, just go to groups.yahoo.com and search for StrollerSWAP. Once you've joined, you can send a message to the group and you'll get lots of advice and opinions. It's also a great place to buy new and barely/gently used strollers. Often, they notify members of great deals as well.

I don't have any advice on double strollers as I have yet to need one, but I bought my single on mamabargains.com at nearly 60% off the retail price and have seen several doubles on the site at similar discounts. Mamabargains is a one deal at a time site (once one item sells out, a new item is featured), so you've got to pay attention if you're on the lookout for something in particular but the deals are definitely worth it.

Good luck!

We have the Graco DuoGlider and love it! It's been great for us with two kids (16 months apart in age). Before spending a lot of money, I would check craigslist.org and freecycle.org (you can sign up for a group in your area). We got ours from someone on Freecycle, never spent a dime, and it's been great. Good luck!

I think we've owned every stroller under the sun. My 2 youngest are 20mos apart. We have the Graco Quattro and it was/is a fantastic stroller though it is heavy. Since my daughter is now 3, she prefers to walk alot more so taking that stroller to the mall is getting a bit ridiculous. It runs about $150 or so. I borrowed a sit and stand and hated it b/c my daughter was so young when my son came along. Plus I didn't like baby being so far away from me. We have a side by side double jogger and now that they are older, the beat on each other, so that's no good either. I just bought a phil and ted's stroller w/doubles kit that I love. It is a $600+ stroller but costco is selling them for $299 w/free shipping. I can go from one seat to 2 seats easily.

I have a Graco DuoGlider, which I like very much. It does get heavy after awhile, but its easy to set up and take down. I got mine in perfect shape from a consignment store for $35. I would strongly suggest checking out the local consignment stores and/or a website like craigslist.com ... they always have great deals on there! Good luck.

My friend did all the research on this and came up with the black and green Combi side-by-side stroller. It fits through all normal doors, folds the smallest in the trunk, does not weigh a ton and reclines separately on both side. the only negative is that the baskets undernieth are a little puny. Hope this helps.

I have 2 double strollers. I have a jogging stroller that is side by side, which is my favorite. I also have the front/back stroller from One Step Ahead. That one folds easily, and clicks open easily. It was great to click in the car seat when my son was an infant. Now that my daughter is 3, she prefers to sit on the platform facing me, and my son gets the front row seat to look at the action. What I don't like about the One Step Ahead is.. it does not off road well at all - like having to go on the grass to avoid a trash can on the sidewalk. It is a little difficult to push up onto a sidewalk if it doesn't have the handicap cut out. The stroller doesn't have a lot of storage, so it is tough to take to the mall. However, to go someplace like the zoo is wonderful.
