I would like to connect with other Mom's who have children with Milk and Egg allergies. My 13 month old was dx with these allergies four months ago. I am adapting well, learning to read labels closely and finding good recipes for our family. I would love to share things I have learned and also learn other tips as I know it will get harder as she gets older and is not in my care 24/7.

Have you looked at yahoogroups.com ? There are groups on there with just those allergies & how they feed their families & deal with label reading. I am part of a celiac group on yahoogroups & it has been invaluable as I have had to learn how to cook in a whole new way, and read labels very carefully.

Good luck, food allergies are no fun.

Hi R., I too have a child with allergies. My daughter is 2 and has not outgrown her milk and soy allergies, but they are getting better. I self diagnosed her at 5 months and finally had her tested. I had to go on an elimination diet because I nursed her til 14 months which was not easy. Now it's still annoying because I have to read labels all the time and take her food everywhere. I leave some in her bag in case we go out to eat because I have to know what she eats and dairy and soy are in everything people cook. If there is any dairy or soy listed anywhere in the ingredients she reacts, so no butter, etc. But the good news is that her reactions are getting less and shorter. I have hope that by 3 she'll have outgrown it. Her babysitter and all of our family know what to look for in the labels and what she can and can't have. I have to put a sign up in the church nursery that she can only have what's in her bag. Just make sure his bag is fully stocked and whoever is keeping him knows that he can't have anything not in the bag.

The hardest thing for us right now is that she's noticing that she's not eating what we are and she wants to. No pizza, cheese dip, mexican food, bread, etc. And when she goes to parties and they are eating cake and ice cream, she gets her non dairy/soy cookies. But it's not too bad yet.

If you want to message me and talk about it, I'd love to share what works and doesn't work and maybe get some tips from you too.

I too have a child with a milk allergy. I am also allergic to dairy and eggs (however, don't take my advice on my own eating because I still eat them). There is a website www.drmcdougall.com which has a myriad of information on dairy-less eating. There is also an area on the website that speaks of newsletters and archive. If you follow that path there are an abundance of recipes that are very good. I mean "Fettuccine Alfredo" with no dairy - nuts make the cream sauce! If you start out explaining to her that it is not good for her or that it upsets her tummy, she will probably be o.k. with it as she grows - mine is (now 5). I don't have much time right now.....but....I am in Fayetteville, AR
Take care and I will check back in. Oh, I almost forgot - enriched rice milk not soy......she will probably like it because the vanilla is a bit sweeter than regular milk.

My, now 2yrs old, son was diagnosed with allergies to wheat, eggs, and diary when he was seven months. We adjusted very well to that within months. Now, 3 months ago, he was dx with an allergy to nuts. That has made shopping for food alot harder these days, but an adjustment had to be made. My best suggestion to you is, ORGANIC FOOD STORES. I know it's really expensive, but going organic is sometimes the best way to find the food that your child can eat (and, you will also enjoy). I have also adjusted my diet, actually it was a lifestyle change, to my sons so that he would never be tempted to try something that he couldn't have. It has really gotten harder since my husband and I had to put him in day care. He was caught sneaking into the cheerios because they look like his cereal at home. So, now we send all sorts of snacks for him and his teachers give him constant access to them.

hi R. - when my son was newly born i had to do an elimination diet while nursing him - i had to give up wheat, eggs, dairy, soy, peanuts and more!! i basically ate meat and veggies. it was really difficult as things like milk, eggs and wheat are in everything!!! i eventually re-introduced things but now we don't use much dairy at all.

i work for a company started by a mom whose children (and herself) had extreme allergies, among other things, and she found it so hard to cook for her family!!!!

the company is called wildtree - check out www.jenwarr.mywildtree.com for more info. i can send you a product list that has all the products listed by allergens so that you would know which would be ok. there is no msg, food dyes, preservatives, additives, minimal salt or sugar and over 100 gluten free products!! plus they come with recipe suggestions and i have MANY as well!!!

there is also a great book called balancing the bowl that might be helpful.

hope this helps

Check out the vegweb.com website. It is a vegan website that has alternate ingredients to make normal everyday meals. They like to substitute egg with applesauce and many other ideas.

Hope it helps.
