Not sure what part of Philly you're looking at. But Burholme park is nice in ne philly. it's near Jean's hospital off of cottman. there is a nice playground area with a "sand pit" and your traditional jungle gym equipment, etc. and a nice picnic area as well. there is also the Ryer's museum on the same grounds.

P.,

I also was going to suggest Mason Mills and The Castle. (Mason Mills is in UpperMoreland, Willow Grove area.) Also, Jenks Playground on Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill (corner of Southhampton Ave., next to the Jenks School), and Parkside Playground (I think that's the name) in Upper Gwynedd, on Sumneytown Pike. Wall Park on Church Road in Elkins Park also is very nice. Everybody's Playground in Horsham, a handicapped accessible playground, also is nice, but there is no shade! Have fun!

Not sure where in suburbs you are looking for or how far you're willing to go, but here are a few I love taking my daugter to:
Black Rock Park in Upper Providence Township, Collegeville, PA
Heuser Park in King of Prussia on Beidler Road
Lower Providence Township Park just off Ridge Pike in Eagleville.
Manderach Park in Limerick. They have a huge castle for kids to climb in and out of (you can find it by googling online)and its comletely fenced in.

None of these get overly crowded, although fall sports season will be starting up soon and some of these do have sports fields near the playgrounds.

If in Philly, I suggest Franklin Square at 7th and Race. Has mini golf, carousel, fountain and playground - fun! I've never felt too crowded there, myself.

Have fun!

I moved from Newtown Square to Drexel Hill last summer.

Our favorite park had always been the Vetarn's Memorial park in Bromall.

It is right before St. Pius on Lawerence Road in Broomall.

We used to call it the "Gary" park, because one of the climbing toys looks like Gary the snail from Sponge Bob.

It is big enough for older kids, (public bike trail) and a great climbing hill, swings, picnac pavillion, and has very clean public bathrooms, and plenty of toddler climb on's and swings and it is so much fun!
