I'm about 90% sure I have PCOS. My mom was diagnosed in her early 20's after her doctor did bloodwork, and I have all of the same symptoms that she has/had, I had extremely irregular cycles (random, usually at least 6 months) from the time my period started until the time I started birth control at 18. I was on birth control for 5 years and that helped with my cycles and it was not really an issue. Now I've been off the pill since May and I'm not ovulating at all and I've only had one cycle that ended naturally (after 59 days.)
I do like my gyn, but she just wants me to try several cycles of clomid (we are trying to conceive,) while I would prefer to get a diagnosis and try metformin, especially because I'm trying to lose a little weight (only about 15-20 pds) before I get pregnant.
So I'm hoping to find a general practicioner (or a great gyn) who is familiar with PCOS and may be able to help me get a diagnosis/treatment...we live in St.Charles county but I'd be willing to drive to other areas for a great doctor.

You sound like my youngest daughter. After 7 years of TTC and many doctors (she has PCOS), she found Dr. Pearlstone at MoBap. She is now 6 months pregnant. I hope he can help you,too. God bless.

I second Dr Pearlstone. I had a mild case of PCOS - and was on metformin. He doesn't mess around - if something doesn't work after 2-3 trys it's on to the next step. I got pg on my first try of IUI. I always was able to get a 7am appt for bloodwork, u/s, etc so I could get to work by 8. My SIL referred him to me - she now has 4 kids (no twins!). Good luck and hang in there!
We've tried for a long time and Dr. Pearlstone was the one who really helped us (we tried several docs around town). He's great. We're pregnant now with twins. Good luck!
Hi A.! I know your looking for a new doctor and Im sorry but I know nothing about your condition. But I did want to give you advice on finding a new OB in the St. Charles area. Make sure they will deliver at St. Johns or Mo Bap or a place that has a NICU. I never even thought of this when I was pregnant, my I had two babies at Barnes St. Peters with no problem, but my sister had a baby there too that had to be air lifted to Childrens because the hospital wasnt equipted for his needs. Not good. I just noticed a lot of St. Charles area OB wont go too far from their office to deliver and there are no hospitals in St Charles Co. that have a NICU. God forbid you would ever need it. My friend has a really good doctor that delivers at St. Johns. She was also on clomid and lots of different things due to complications, I will ask her the name and get back to you!
