Hi Moms, It is time for my almost 3 year old to go to the dentist. I wore a palate expander at her age and ended up avoiding braces. Just wanting to see if she needs to do the same. Please respond with any knowledge about good pediatric dental professionals. Thanks.

Joan Sefcik is amazing and great with kids! My daughter loves her, they have a fun kids waiting room, and have the option to use natural products. Located in central Austin:

The pediatric dentist we used was up off Anderson Mill but really fantastic. His name is John R. Updyke, D.M.D. and his group is called Austin Childrens Dentistry. The phone number is 682-KIDS.
We really loved them. Unfortunately they aren't par on our current insurance so we are thinking of switching to Dr. Pamela Singletary. Hopefully she will be as wonderful as Dr. Updyke and staff are.
Dr. Stephen T White
corner of Far West and Mopac
been in practice for over 30 years in Austin
Love him!

I live in Austin, and I take my 2 1/2 year old and 8 1/2 year old to Dr. Traci Simons in South Austin. She is awesome with kids! My 8 1/2 year old also goes to an orthodontist, Dr. Mary Kay Becher, off of Ben White for a retainer in order to avoid braces as a teenager.
We love Dr. Michelle Freeze. She does strictly pediatrics, & her office is completely kid-centric. She offers various levels of sedation depending on the child's level of comfort, & there's a tv screen suspended above the dentist's chair, so the child can watch movies while the dental work is being done. Our daughter needed three fillings when she was almost three, and we opted for a twilight sedative, which is administered orally in the office. She also uses a tiny nitrous oxide mask that fits over the child's nose & smells like bubble gum - they call it the "space nose."
The drawback is that both of her offices are northwest, & I mean really northwest - one is in Steiner Ranch, & one is on Lakeline Blvd. But it is really worth the drive for us, & it's not like you're going to be going there once a week or anything.
We have also consistently heard good things about Dr. Sherwood - his office is on MoPac, near Far West Blvd. We went there for an initial consultation, & he wasn't a good fit for us, but when we were asking around, his name kept coming up, so I know that he does good work with children.
Dr. Scott Franklin and Dr. Aaron Collins are excellent pediatric dentists! I know you would love them! They are located centrally at 1910 W. 35th Street and the phone number is ###-###-####. My son has been going to them for a few years now and even he loves going there. The doctors and staff are very warm and welcoming and the office is designed just for kids!
I work for Dr. Sherwood at Far West and MoPac. I realize I may be biased, but I think he's the best in Austin. He's very conservative with treatment, gentle with kids and works with a multitude of disabilities as well. He is also the father of 4. That helps A LOT!

see about the practice at www.drsherwood.net
We go to Dr. Singletary, who someone already mentioned. She used to work with Dr. Watts and that is who we originally wanted, but he wasn't taking new patients at the time. He is located near the Arboretum.
I just took my kids to Tarrytown Dental (on Exposition, off Windsor). http://www.tarrytowndental.com/
I was so impressed with their "chair side manner". The hygenist was exceptionally gentle and great with kids. It was fun for them. The dentist had the softest touch (I had my teeth cleaned as well.) I was pleasantly surprised & highly recommend them.
Good luck!

I've really been happy with Dr. Sherwood off of Far West. He's been absolutely amazing and we love everyone in his office as well.
We take our 3 yr old to a wonderful dentist in Oak Hill - Modern Family Dentistry. We love it there and so does our daughter - she always asks when she can go back.
HI Kelly,
My office happens to work with a lot of Pediatric Dentist. You have a tough decision in front of you! There are a lot of great pediatric dentists in town. I've heard about many that were listed below.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO MAKE SURE YOUR LITTLE PRINCESS IS COMFORTABLE WITH THE STAFF AND THE DOCTOR!!!
Pediatric dentist: I love Greg Theil!!! This is were I will take my daughter.

He and his staff are VERY good.
Same goes for Danny Watts, just depends which direction on loop360 you want to go.
Jeff Zapalac is the best ORTHODONTIST in town, but you will not need to see him until she's 7 or 8.

I do work for Dr. Zapalac. My husband was a patient of his when he was in high school. I moved to Austin in 1998. That December, I had my braces put on. The day I got my braces off, I went in for an interview and got the job. (I had so much fun at my appointments and I could tell it was a nice place to be) Now it's seven years later.......
I now have a one year old daughter. Since I still need to be a financial contributor to my family, it's the ONLY place I will ever work. I would not say such things if they weren't true, I'm not that type of person. Hope to see you in a couple years. Don't hesitate to call with any questions before then!
I understand you might think I'm bias. There are some great orthodontist in Austin, but if you're looking for the best, then you've found him!
PS - Pam Singletary was in the same group with Watts and Theil but has now moved to Michelle Freeze's practice off Lakeline Blvd. Both are very good but not in your area.
