Seeking Pediatrician and Clinic Recommendations

I plan to take my son to one of the Fairview clinics, either Highland Park (in St. Paul), Hiawatha (Mpls), or UM (Mpls). Have you had any experiences at any of those clinics and/or do you have any pediatricians to recommend for my 9-month-old?

I'm also wondering about whether I should seek a Family Care Doctor (who does adults and children) or a pediatrician.

I appreciate all your candid recommendations (and warnings). Thanks.

My son sees Dr. Sarah Maier at Fairview Hiawatha. He has also seen 2 other doctors there. I prefer Dr. Maier. I may be wrong, but I don't think they have pediatricians there, just family practitioners. Dr. Maier knows a lot about natural and wholistic medicine as well as mainstream medical practices.

I prefer a pediatrician docter and pediatrician dentist as well. They're specialty is kids.

My 2 year old and 7 week old both go to South Lake Pediatrics. You may visit the website at http://www.southlakepediatrics.com. We love going to these offices they are kid friendly.

My daughter was born @ Fairview Riverside and while in the hospital we saw Dr. Lisa Spatz. We had already been set up to see the pediatrician @ the Highland Park Fairview clinic, but after our first visit during which the pediatrician (Dr. Trockenbrod) told me I needed to do a better job cleaning my daughter's bottom (right after she had a messy diaper at the clinic right before the doctor saw us), we decided to seek out Dr. Spatz - she is at the Hiawatha clinic and we LOVE her - she is very approachable, down to earth, she is a mother herself. I have had to use the clinic on an occasion when Dr. Spatz wasn't available and I was happy with the other doctor (Dr. Koontz) we saw there too -- and as a sidebar I also really appreciate the friendly office staff there.

Well, we use a family physician and I am so happy we do. I love our doctor. And I like knowing that he (or the practice as a while) will care for my children beyond their childhood into adulthood.

I have gone to our doctor since I was 6 and it is wonderful! I am a huge fan of family practices!

Dear L S,

I take my 8 year old to Pediatric and Young Adult Medicine on Grand Avenue in St. Paul. My sister also brings her almost 2 month old daughter here. I love it because the doctors specialize in children. We moved here from Wisconsin over a year ago and it took me until 2 months ago to find a Doctor I would bring my child to. If something happens (God Forbid) to your child and you have to call the Doc, you are NOT routed to their nurse or promised a call back. You talk to your pediatrician, if they are unavailable you are given their direct number, because their philosophy is if it is important enough for you to call the doctor, they want to handle it right away.
Their address is:
Pediatric and Young Adult Medicine
233 Grand Avenue
St. Paul, MN

My daughter shared my doctor for the first 7 years of her life and I am very happy I chose a pediatrician this time.

Good Luck!!
