Hi Moms,
After a horrible experience with my son's doctor, we have finally decided to find a doctor closer to our home and our mindset. We are looking for a pediatrician who is 1. ok with a modified vaccination schedule; 2. shares theories and viewpoints but does not berate someone for not following hers/his; 3. is kind and gentle with children and parents; and 4. encourages breastfeeding.

Any recommendations would be very appreciated!

So What Happened?

Thank you for all your responses. We have now had two visits (one per child) with Dr. Kaplan in Los Al. He is WONDERFUL - very kind, quick, playful, informative, knowledgeable. My only "complaint" is that I didn't find him sooner and my 2-year old has to wait an entire year to see him again!

In los al look at Kaplan, Widelitz and Tosu... they share an office. Also Dr. Constance Shih is in the same building, she's awesome!!! All great doctors, nice office staff. We've been very happy with both offices.

Is open and receptive to modified vaccination schedule, kind and gentle with my LO, and definitely a proponent of breastfeeding.

Good luck on your search!

Go to www.tacanow.org and check out the resources on that site. TACA, a support group for families of autism, definitely agrees with you on a modified vaccine schedule and the doctors that are listed on their site would also. They would also be more likely to do something other than tell you 'oh, he'll outgrow that, maybe' and suggest diet changes instead of prescriptions if there is a problem of some kind (asthma, allergies, add/adhd).

We have used the doctors and nurses at Dr. Kaplan's office in Los Alamitos. We haven't done a modified vaccination schedule (so i dont know how they handle that) but every time we go in and wait on a vaccine or question one they are very gentle with us and respect our decisions.
