Seeking Recommendation for Pediatric Dentist in N. County

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good pediatric dentist? My 2 1/2 y.o old daughter fell on her face about a week ago and as a result her front teeth are now discoloring. I realize that the trauma has caused the nerves in those teeth to slowly die and they will become more suseptable to breaking. Silver crowns are not an option. I understand the more costly option of having the teeth pulled and placing a kiddie partial every 6 to 12 months until the permanent teeth erupt is what our future will hold. I am most interested in a DDS who is good with children (obviously) and who will also let me stay with my daughter through every procedure (including general anesth.) I'm wondering if anyone has gone through this with their child. This is all very upsetting to me, especially considering that I've been brushing and flossing her perfect teeth since they were nubs! Warning to Daddy's who don't spend enough time with their babies: It is very dangerous to chase kids with socks on through a house with wood floors.

What can I do next?

Dr Peter Bond's office in Escondido is awesome. My son did the same thing with one of his front teeth. So far, we are in the watch and wait phase still. Worst case, he will have to have a root canal. The Staff with Dr. Bond is great. Dr. Bond himself is out on medical leave, but his sub is Dr. Lin and she is equally as great. They always let me come in with my kids (preschool age). The office is very kid friendly. There are tv screens on the ceiling so the kids are distracted while getting work done. Their office number is ###-###-####

We are in Escondido but drive to Rancho Bernardo because these guys are well worth it. After several dentists, one involving a formal complaint against them, we found ourselves here. They are really good with the kids and have all the equiptment to treat children there. The only thing is they won't let you stay with her during some treatments. They don't push general anesthesia and usually don't need to use it (there is a long story I won't go into about my oldest and teeth...for all the work they needed to do they never needed to use more than nitros for him). They do have nitros if needed though. I highly recommend looking into them.

My son (now 3) also fell about six months ago and his tooth initially discolored. I was really worried also! We took him to our pediatric dentist and they told us he was ok. They didn't do any type of procedure other than an oral exam. They asked us to just watch it carefully for infection in the gums. The discoloration (it was gray) actually improved and it is very difficult to tell now that his tooth was damaged. It will probably be the first to fall out when he starts to lose his teeth. Our pediatric dentist is in Encinitas and his name is J. Patrick Davis ###-###-####. We're very happy with the practice.

Hi L. I would recomend Dr. McHale in Valley Center. His practice isn't a pediatric one but he is a very very good doctor and he is very gentle with all his patients. One of my good friends works with him as well and she is a wonderful person who is great with kids. His number is ###-###-####

I too, was going to recommend DR. Dixon and Thurston, i went to this Dentist as a child and just love everything about the office and Dentists. I too have taken my 4 yr. old son to 2 other Dentists, for the reason being they were part of our insurance group, but all we had was terrible experiences. So now I rather pay out of pocket for a Excellent Dentist.
Hope this helps

my husband is a dentist and i told him your story. discoloring is part of trauma. you wouldn't neccessarily need to pull the tooth unless it is loose or if there is a "pimple" in the gumline. the pediatric dentist will know what route to go. he said there is no such thing as a root canal or a crown for baby teeth. i took my kids to dr. rawlings in encinatas, but he also has a practice in solena beach. i don't have his phone number off hand, but i'm sure you could google it. good luck!

We go to William Rawlings in Encinitas. He's great with our skittish daughter and special needs son. He also helped my sister-in-law who went to a bad dentist who wanted to pull out several of her son's baby teeth when, it turned out, that wasn't medically necessary -- just lucrative for the dentist.

I know how you feel. My son who is now 15 months old had a similar accident but he shattered one tooth and broke the other one almost in half. We were just walking down the sidewalk and he slipped and fell directly on his two front teeth. I was devastated. The Pediatric Dentist we went to was highly recommended and a friend of my sister's. His name is Dr. Eric Dixson. He was wonderful his ####-###-#### and he's located in SD on Oberlin Drive. Dr. Dixson then had to refer us to a Surgeon for removal of the one tooth. It was a difficult thing to go through but your daughter will be fine. I had to keep reminding myself that they are only teeth and they will come back...thank goodness. Best wishes.
