Seeking Recommendations on Piano Lessons for My 6-Year-old in Plano/Frisco Area

We inherited my grandmother's piano when she passed away last year and my 5-year-old (now 6) took an interest in it right away. She's already taught herself simple songs, like Twinkle Twinkle, and has already sort of "composed" her own song, which she plays repeatedly. So, obviously, I want to act on her interest and get her signed up for some lessons. I'm looking for personal recommendations on a good piano teacher/school that accepts children her age, preferably in the West Plano/Frisco area. Preferably one that doesn't cost and arm and a leg too!

What can I do next?

Hi J.,
My name is L. Stephan, and I just moved to Frisco last month. I am a private piano instructor- I teach out of my home. I have a Bachelors and Masters in Piano Performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Lessons for that age are typically 30 min and I charge $30 per lesson. Let me know if you have any questions- I would be happy to answer them!
You can contact me at ____@____.com
Thanks!

We looked for a while for lessons for our 6 year old and it was so expensive! We actually found a great mom in our neighborhood who does 30 min lessons for only $15 per lesson - a lot cheaper than most places!

We're in McKinney (I know you said Plano or Frisco) but if you'd like her information, I'd be happy to share.

We live off Lake Forest and Eldorado Pkwy (about 2 minutes from 121 and Lake Forest).

Our daughters go to The Music Conservatory (in Flower Mound, but I beleive they have a Frisco/Plano location). My oldest one started about 4 years ago, and my youngest 2 years ago (they were each 5-6 years old).

One of the great programs they offer for the young beginners is a "lab class." It's a one-hour, once-a-week, small group of students (usually 3-6 kids). They're in a room with 6 pianos and one teacher. Each week the class is separated into a few segments: kids will play their homework piece(s) for the teacher and get a new assignment for the following week, kids will meet in a group at a table to play fun games to learn sheet music and notes (they clap to the written piece, or shout out A-A-G-G-F-E-D when the teacher points to a measure or line, etc. Then, at the end of the class, they play pieces together, with the less advanced students playing the simplest parts of the songs, and the more advanced students playing the more difficult part of the songs. This seems to help everyone work on their timing, as they have to play with the group.

Kids have headphones, so they're not disturbing each other while they're playing the homework pieces in the beginning. They also break into teams for some of the games and get stickers at the end.

I think they suggest their lab classes (which are also cheaper than private lessons) for 1-2 years before moving them to private lessons, and kids can join any time during the year (hence the reason there are more and less advanced students).

I'm sure they can explain the lab system on the phone better than I can in writing.

Good luck!

Hi J.,
My name is R. Hunter and I teach piano in my home. I have been teaching music for 15 yrs. I charge $18 per 30 min. lesson. I have 2 recitals a year outside of my home. I also have a kids only Halloween party at my home where they come in costume and play for each other and get to know each other. It's a lot of fun! I do have some references on mamasource. I look forward to hearing from you.
