My almost 3 year old son has caught a virus from me and now has a soar throat during the night and when he first wakes up. He is whining and crying during his sleep because of the pain. Trust me, I know what he is feeling as my throat feels the same way. Any suggestions as to what I can give him to help alleviate his pain and help him sleep through the night? The virus also comes with drainage and caugh as well. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

Have you had the chance to take him to the dr? Tonsilitis is going around big time. My 18 month had to go through 3 rounds of antibotics for his sore throat. We live north of the Tampa area. Just a thought....

Night time coughing is a sign of asthma. I know I thought that i'd know if she had asthma but my dd only gets asthma when she is sick with a cold. Her only asthma signs are cough, sore throat, and nightime waking. So whenever she gets a bug I have to start her on pulmicort once a day. Otherwise, she'll cough for months.

How long has he had the sore throat and cough? I also use a cool mist humidifier since the house is so dry with all the ac.

I would suggest children's motrin, it will alleviate the pain and discomfort that associates the soar throat, if he is running a fever this will help with that as well but I would suggest you see a dr if things don't turn around soon.

I don't know how you feel about medicines but I would try giving him childrens motrin for the pain and I know this is going to sound crazy but if you cut a onion in half and put in his room next to him on a dresser, or somthing nerby the aroma will stop the coughing, it really works!
