Hi J.,
I recommend Cheryl @ Downtown Scottsdale Hair & Nails ###-###-####. She does my hair all the time & I have recommended her on here before & others are now going to her. Miller & Indian School
I have naturally curly hair and am considering having it relaxed so it will be less time consuming in the mornings. Has anyone out there ever tried a do-it-yourself kit or know of a a salon or haridresser who has done this before? I looked at a couple f salons and they all want $90-140 not including the haircut! Is this normal?
After much research I decided to go with Hair Artisitry by Greta (her business is also listed on Mamasource). Greta retexturized my hair and worked her magic. My hair came out soft, shiny and beautiful. I have received many compliments on my new style. Thank you Greta!

Hi J., I'm not big on doing a bunch of chemical treatments on my hair other than color. I have long, naturally curly hair down to the middle of my back. I have a woman that cuts my hair and after she's done, she blow dries it straight and then uses the flat iron on it. It lasts as long as I don't wash it! She only charges $15 to "style" it which I do when I want to surprise my finace with a new 'woman'! :) Here is her contact info if you want to check with her. She is really wonderful and has great prices! Her name is Krista and her number is ###-###-####, if you call her tell her F. sent you! Good luck!
I did it about 12 years ago. My hair felt really heavy and greasey. I now take the time to use a flat iron every morning, and have been doing that way for years now. It really doesn't take that long.
I also have very curly hair and so does my hair-dresser. She's the only one I've found that does an excellent job at straightning w/brush and blow dryer. Then she puts something on it and I can go many days without having to touch my hair!
I have had it chemically straighted twice. Last time I straightened just my bangs and pulled the back of my hair up in a pony tail when I went to the beach. That worked very well.
If you have color treated hair (as I do)it will be extremely drying. It felt terrible actually.
Chemically treatments are also very time consuming, but it lasted until my hair grew out.

You will be very pleased with her!
Good luck
Hi J.,
I have had it done and absolutely love it! It completely changed my life and for the better!! I got to where I dreaded washing my hair because of how much time it took just to get ready and get out the door with kids! My hair it thick, more on the course side, and had a wave that did nothing!
HOWEVER, I looked into it for years and researched a lot!!! When it first came out it was like $1,000. or more years ago. There are more processes out there that are not good and even more people that are not properly trained on this meticulous process. So consequently a lot of people out there that have had their hair ruined and a lot of money wasted!!!
If it is done right your hair should be healthier and last months. Mine has. I finally had a source dropped in my lap and she came highly recommended by apparently a lot of people in the industry that used her. Now, this was in CA unfortunately. They went to her because she was very good at it and incredibly reasonable for this very expensive procedure. I had it done for like $165-$185. The process takes about 5 hrs. and apparently it's a Japanese Process that is the best. They use a lot of conditioning to where especially in my case it not only retained the healthy hair I had but has in fact made it healthier it seems. It may be you could just see it better because I where my hair really straight.
For something like this, take your time and look for people who have actually had it done. I'm serious I've heard of more unhappy people then people who were not. This is an investment so make the necessary steps to do so. Start with a WELL SEASONED Hair Dresser that has been trained on it and had success with "happy" clients. Like I said the right process will take at least 5 hrs!
Happy to talk you even more if you like,
A.
J., yes dear it is normal for a hairdressers to charge an outrageous amount of money to do anything to your hair. Though I must say that the lady I go to is worth EVERY penny. She is more used working on "ethnic" hair, I've never experienced ANY problems, (and I'm not "ethnic"). Her work is superb no matter what your hair type. She is a straight shooter, sometimes abrasive, but she will NEVER tell you something that isn't true and her prices are usually pretty good. Her name is Inya #602*488*3417 you should try her out. Hope this helps! : )
I had the Japanese straightner on my hair and it was the worst thing I ever did. I have thin, fine hair though, so maybe it shouldn't have been done on my hair. Not sure how long my stylist had been doing it. It's really good you asked on here so that if you decide to do it, you can go to someone who knows what they're doing.
I'm telling you, it was the worst year of my life having that straightened hair!!
Good luck! I feel you on wanting to save time getting ready. I just dry my hair with a big round brush and use Frizz Ease. Sometimes I use a straightener--I have a Tourmeline one, it's really good. Then the next day I wear my hair up. It wouldn't look good to wear it down again because it is so thin it gets greasy looking.
Just be careful whatever you decide! good luck!
I work in tempe on McClintock and Elliot if you want to come in for a consultation I would be more than happy to give one to you I am at the salon all day monday, thurs and sat. There is a few differant processes you could do it just depends on what look your going for and how curly your hair is. My salon is called Studio 116 my name is H. ###-###-#### I own it.
Hi, J. -
My advice... DON'T DO IT!! Especially not with an at-home kit of any kind. The chemicals used to relax hair are harsh, and you could do serious damage to your hair. I fought my naturally wavy/curly hair forever, then wised up and decided to use it to my advantage. Naturally curly hair - coupled with the right haircut, is the best time saver of all. Find a great haircutter, then wash your hair at home and let it dry naturally. Whomever is cutting your hair will have the opportunity to see what it does on its own, then cut it to work with the curl. Just my two cents, for what it's worth. Good luck!
My sister in-law had REALLY curly hair, she wanted it straightened. I sent her to Salon XS on Val Vista and Frye. There is a relaxer and a straightner. I think a simply relaxer may cost around $100.00 but a complete straightnercost her @ $800.00. Stephenie P does a great relaxer and but there is a specialist there that does the straightner. The great thing is...they do a free consultation so you can decide what ou really want
Good Luck
