So What Happened?™
hello again ladies:
It has taken some time but i have seen the doctor(s)
1st doc diagnosis(a gynecologist): small hernia which may be causing some back pain and need a surgeon to fix 'pouch', doesn't think exercises will help 'pouch'
2nd doc diagnosis(an internal medicine doc): same as 1st doc (blood work is pending- i have to fast fiirst and go soon)
3rd doc diagnosis(a general surgeon):small hernia which maybe causing some back pain and as for pouch exercise but did not have any regiment/suggestions as to what kind exercises. i have been exercising more consisting of cardio (thinking i should lose weight) and tummy exercises but at this point i was wondering if anyone had suggestions as to a surgeon(of course that would consider this for a health reason as oppose to cosmetic-insurance purposes) and/or therapist that specifically worked the DIASTASIS RECTI ?? again appreciate your help. THANK YOU!!!

What can I do next?

Depending how severe your diastasis recti is (how separated your muscles are) physical therapy might not help. I've had 3 babies and had almost a 5 finger separation. I tried physical therapy but it didn't work. I ended up having a tummy tuck and am so much happier. Back issues were lessened as well (I wasn't aware how connected one issue was with the other). In my case, I paid for the surgery and did the smart thing with going with a plastic surgeon. I know that in today's economy and maybe to alot of people it may have seemed very superficial and vain thing to do but I did everything I could first but nothing helped. I used to look like I was 6 months pregnant all the time. Unless you're in that situation, you can't tell anyone that that's the way your body naturally ends up after childbirth.

Good luck!!

Incorporating yoga into your weekly routine will help strengthen the abs and the back. Also a person is never to young to do kegel exercises.

There are specific exercises to help correct this issue and there are ab workouts that you should NOT be doing with Diastasis Recti. I would not do an ab routine until consulting a professional, some WILL make it worse). A PT or a Chiropractor (www.icpa4kids.org) with Pregnancy and Post-partum training should be able to direct you. It is hard to diagnose over email, but I have seen 5 inch separtations improve to be symptom free.

Your "pouch" can be corrected by a physical therapist, yes you are correct, diastasis recti needs to be addressed and you don't need cosmetic surgery to fix it.

Judy Florendo, PT in Chicago is one of the top PT"s in women's health, she speaks all over and is fabulous. http://florendopt.com/ is her website.

I have referred quite a few women to her and they have been estatic with their outcome.

I just posted an article on my National Pregnancy Health Column for examiner.com on DS:

Good Luck, I know you will be pleased with her services.
